Basic tools

To take a step back, you can go on to edit at the top of the page and then the third one down is ‘step backward’ when you click on this , the last thing you done on your photoshop will undo.

The magnetic lasso tool helps you photoshop and its the easiest way to do that.

Layers

On the bottom right of your screen there should be something that looks like this. These are called layers.

Whenever you want to add something new you create it on a new layer but when you add something new to your photoshop it will create a new layer all you have to do is name it by clicking the part where the yellow arrow is pointing.

To delete a layer you need to right click on the layer and this will come up , when you click on this another thing will come up and when it does press okay and then the layer will be deleted.

Ove you have followed the steps on the previous slides, you will notice there is already a background layer with a lock next to it the lock means that you won't be able to delete any accidental changes you have made so you need to duplicate this layer.

Opening photoshop

To open,youYou need to go to start on your pc and type in the search bar adobe photoshop CS5.

Once you open this, go to the bar at the top and click on file. After you have done this, a list of things should come up and at the top of the list should be a option for a new file. When you see this click on it.

Setting up your photoshop

When you click on new, this should come up on your screen. When this appears your going to need to change some numbers.

Change the :

Width : 21cmHeight : 29.7cmResolution: 300 pixels/inch

Your screen should now look like this

Creating a background

Now you can start creating your background. Down at the bottom of the tool bar at the side of the screen there are two square that should be white but if you click on them a colour gradient should come up and this is where you choose the background colour.

Once you have click on the colour you want, press “ok” and your page will be filled with the color you chose.

Writing the title/ text boxes

When you want to write you title, click on this button and you will be able to create a text box. You can make the text box any size you want, bu using the corners where there should be little cubes.

The text box should look like this, once you have the box to your desired size you can start writing your title.

Adding pictures

When you want to add pictures you will want to google the picture what you want , for example im doing a advert for mac cosmetics so i typed into google “mac cosmetics “ and when you have done this go to tools on the page click on size and press ‘large’.

Once you have found your image that you want to use right click on it and a option for saving your image should come up click on this and then save the picture to your documents in a place where you will be able to find it later.

This will appear on your screen when it does name the image what you would like and then press save.

Go back onto photoshop and click on file at the top of the screen and press open.

Once you open the image , it will open in a new page but still on photoshop , here's where we use the magnetic lasso tool to photoshop our image.

Photoshopping images

Now that you have added your image, you need to photoshop the parts that you want to use in your advert.

To do this you need to use the magnetic lasso tool to select your image.To use this, you will need to click on the top of your product and bring your cursor around the product and when you get all the way around the product you need to click where you started on the product and it will change to little ants around your picture which means that you have selected it.

Now to put your selected image onto the real thing, to do this you need to go to edit at the top and then go down to copy; go back onto the page where your real thing is and press paste and the image will appear.

Adding shapes To add a shape to your advert you need to go to the shape tool on your toolbar and right click, this will give you the option of loads of different shapes all you need to do is click on the one you want.

To change the opacity of your shape (make it lighter) click on the layer and at the top of the layers there should be a option for opacity change this according to how you want the shape to look.

Cropping and moving your image

To make you image bigger or smaller you need to press ctrl and T and the image will be selected.

This box will appear around your image this is so you can move the image you can click on a corner and drag it out the make the image bigger ( hold down shift when you do so ) and drag the corner in to make the image smaller.

Adding effects

To add effects to the text, you need to go top the layer and double click. When you do so this will appear in the middle of you screen click on the effect that you want to add and press ok.

Your effect will now be added to your text.

Making your advert appealing

Add boxes around your products and prices to make it more professional.

Use a catchy and humorous catchline to catch a reader's eye.

Saving as PDF

To save your advert you need to go to file at the top and go down to save as.

Go down to “PDF” and press save.

Now your advert will be saved as a PDF and when you upload it, people will open it being a PDF.

Final advert

As you can see this is my final advert. You can see that i have used basic colours but i have still stuck to the brands aesthetic.

I have also used a catchy cathline.
