Action/Instructional ProceduresProcedures: Set up: The vocab words with their definitions must be already written on the white board and visible for the students to see.

Anticipatory Set: (3 min) Call Lesley and Gianna over to the reading group table. Have 3 sets of Spy Tools books for each student and myself. The teacher copy will have my post its and notes already inside on the pages. Pass out the books to the students. Ask students about the title, author, and genre of the book. Step 1: (5 min) Make predictions about the book based on the title and photographs. Ask the students what they already know about spies and the tools that they use to help them. Look at the index and think about what the students might learn from the book. Step 2: (5 min) Go over the vocabulary words for this text (spy, camera, jigsaw, microphone, message, binoculars, homonyms) Step 3: (5 min) Take a picture walk through the book and go over the critical thinking questions.
