Simply type in a word or phrase in the search box and click Go. Switch Libraries If you’d like to find encyclopedia articles and content at a particular reading level, use the buttons on the Main Home Page to switch to a different library. Choose Senior High School for Years 10-12, Middle School for Years 5-9, or Primary School for K-5. Britannica’s 151,800 articles are noted for their interesting and informative content.When you choose a Senior High School article you will see a page that looks likethis one. If you choose a Middle School article or Primary School article, you willsee a slightly different display. For all the encyclopedias, we have included somefeatures that will make exploring that content even easier.

Search AgainYou can also quickly see searchresults from other libraries byentering a word in the SearchAgain box then selecting a libraryfrom the menu and clicking GO.

The ArticleThe text of the article appears in thecentre of the page. Media thataccompany articles are arranged tothe left of the text. To see a largerversion of an image or play a mediaelement, click on it. If there is amagnifying glass on the bottom righthand corner of the image this meansyou can zoom in on the image byholding the mouse over it.

Related content accompanies many ofthe articles. Use the buttons on the topof the left column to find maps, flags,tables and more. For example, clickImages to see a list of images indexedto whale.

Longer articles are divided intoseparate pages. You will find a link tothe next section at the top and bottomof the page.

You can also go directly to differentsections of the article by using thearticle’s Table of Contents, which isalso displayed on the left side of thepage. Some tables of contents arevery detailed and include subheadingsas well as headings. Click the plussign (+) next to a heading to viewsubheadings. You can also display theentire Table of Contents by clickingthe link at the top.

Britannica Online School Edition Learning Materials

Britannica’s collection of Learning Materials can help you perfect your skills andexpand your knowledge. After you have selected English, Mathematics, Science orSocial Studies you will see a list of available activities. Choose a type of activityfrom the appropriate level, then select a specific example, and a new window willopen, as seen below.

Choosing Learning MaterialsIn each subject area, LearningMaterials are grouped into narrowersubject areas, grade levels and differenttypes of activities. For example,Science includes Life Sciences,Chemistry, Physics and so on. UnderLife Sciences, you will see differentgrade levels and links to InteractiveLessons, Study Guides, Exercisesand more. Click on a type of LearningMaterial to see the complete listing.

To open an Interactive Lesson, StudyGuide, or other activities simply click onthe title. Another browser window willopen and the selected item will bedisplayed.

If you have difficulty opening any of theLearning Materials, make sure youhave the proper software plug-in. Linksto plug-ins are provided whenappropriate.
