For Kindergarten students, they nish their rst formal year of educaƟon and move in to Stage 1 as Year 1 stu- dents. Year 6 students graduate from primary school with the vision of establishing themselves as a valuable, resilient and creaƟve secondary student. At the same Ɵme almost 90 young, 4 and 5 year olds are building up the courage to move in to Kin- dergarten in 2018. Term 4 is also when students are assessed against syllabus out- comes to determine their grades for Semester 2 Academic Re- ports. Of course, PresentaƟon Day is an enormous occasion, acknowledging students for their progress and achievements during 2017. GPS now has over 560 students and as such we have decided to split PresentaƟon Day in to two assemblies. One for K-2 and the other for Years 3-6. A separate Sports and Performing Arts PresentaƟon Assembly will also take place. Please see the updated calendar for details. The SRC are hosƟng K-2 and 3-6 discos on November 29 while the Year 6 Farewell will be held at Guildford Leagues Club. I’d like to thank Guildford Leagues Club for providing us the venue free of charge. Year 5 student leadership speeches for 2018 captains, Vice Cap- tains and Prefects are being held on Thursday November 23. This is an incredible assembly in which we have the privilege of hearing from 2018 student leaders and perhaps even leaders of our community a few years from now. I wish all students the best of luck in preparing and presenƟng. On Thursday December 7, starƟng at 3.30pm, the GPS CreaƟve and Performing Arts Showcase will open its doors to parents, carers, family, friends and local community members. Our elite arƟsts will exhibit their drawings, painƟngs, craŌ, dance, de- baƟng, drama and vocal song. This special event is certain to draw a considerable crowd to admire the creaƟvity, passion and talent of GPS students. An opening ceremony followed by a number of performing arts items is sure to entertain you. Student Achievement A large number of students have recently been presented their Bronze, Silver or Gold Superstar Award. It is an honour to pre- sent these awards to students who have applied themselves with great energy and intenƟon to improve their academic, social and physical capacity. I congratulate those students and families for receiving Bronze, Silver or Gold already this year. Students who achieve GOLD will be invited to a GOLD Party to be held on Monday 11 December. Lunch and a movie will be organised for these students in recogniƟon of their commit- ment to the values of GPS. Parents and CiƟzens AssociaƟon (P&C) At todays P&C meeƟng we heard about their plans for the Christmas Rae and MuŌi day, Lolly Day fundraiser and about how parents are cooking lunch for the GOLD party. Kindergarten TransiƟon for 2018 start Wow, this starts next Thursday for three weeks. This program pro- vides both children and parents detailed informaƟon and advice about starƟng Kindergarten. Of course, our teachers are able to build relaƟonships with your children from now so they feel safe and comfortable when they start on February 1, 2018. So, if you know of a child who is turning 5yo before 31 July 2018, he/she needs to be enrolled for 2018. Supervision at School Please remember that students are supervised from 8.30am each day and that all students should be picked promptly aŌer the 3.00pm home bell. One of my concerns is that of students coming to school late. This is unacceptable and can lead to bad habits of being late for school and other appointments. Students must be ready to engage and learn from 9.00am. Regular late stu- dents will have their parents contacted re- quesƟng a reason. JUNIOR BOYS LEAGUE TAG

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to the “Junior Boys League Tag team” for an outstanding season win-ning the Grand Final in the Au-burn PSSA competition for the se-cond year in a row. They were undefeated all year and defeated Blaxcell Street 4 tries to 2 in the Grand Final. A special mention to the Senior Boys League Tag team who fin-ished runners-up. They put in an amazing effort narrowly going down to Blaxcell Street 5 tries to 4.

Mr Nicolacopoulos

On Monday  the  18th  of  September,  16  stu‐dents a ended  ‘Our Spectacular’. The theme for

this year was a ‘Sense of Belonging’. Miss Jones and Miss Toth developed a dance to the song ‘My Island Home’ by Chris ne Anu to reflect the displacement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and a loss of iden ty in expecta ons of metropolitan life.

On Tuesday’s final dress rehearsal, the dance group re-ceived some great feedback from the directors about the improved dance quality, ming and wonderful costumes. This gives us the confidence and excitement to to finally perform our dance to the wider community. Two year 6 students collaborated and wrote about their experience.

“One of the best parts was from our first prac ce while we were at the Opera House. During the 2nd round of prac ce, we received compliments and feedback which boosted our energy and enthusiasm. Not only for the fact that we got to dance for our parents and parents from other schools, but we exceeded their expecta ons which made us really hap-py. Thank you to Miss Jones and Miss Toth. The Dance Group of 2017 would not have been a huge success. Both teachers gave up their a er school me, lunch and recess to help us achieve our goal.”- Sytori 6AK

“What I liked was when we first started Dance Group and we had a lot to improve on and we ended up ge ng there. The choreographer that visited our school helped us to be stronger in our dance. On the day of ‘Our Spectacular’, there were a lot of people on stage. When it was our turn we were all excited, scared and nervous. It was a long day, we did not get back to school un l 11 pm, but we had a break and went to eat McDonalds!” - Ali 6AK

“Thank you for giving us an opportunity to go to Can-berra. My favourite part was going to Questacon and staying at Leumeah Lodge. I really enjoyed the War Me-morial because I loved learning about the past and lis-tening to stories.”- Morteza (6K)

The SRC have decided to hold an end of year disco for their last fundraiser for the year. After deep thought and research into various charities, the SRC have decided to donate all the money fundraised from the disco towards the Cathy Freeman Founda-tion. This foundation gives Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students the opportunity to have the same standards in education in Literacy, school attendance, Health and wellbeing. Come and join us for our end of year disco to help support these children!

Last term the Life Education van visited Guildford Public School and delivered an effective drug and health program for students from Kindergar-ten to Year 6. Our students under-stood how to look

after their bodies and make wise choices that positively affect their health and wellbeing. The lessons were engaging and thought provoking which was thor-oughly enjoyed by students at Guildford Public School. We look forward to seeing Healthy Harold again next year in Term 4. Mrs L. EnvironMentor

Workshop

By Ghazal Mahdavi 4E On Tuesday week 1 Term 4, 4E went to an Environ-Mentor Workshop. We learnt a lot about the rubbish that goes down our drains and ends up in the ocean causing damage to wildlife and the envi-ronment. We did some drama which involved the class getting into groups of five or six. One of the leaders showed us a model of the countryside which contained small creeks and rivers. We add-ed food colouring to different areas on the model, then poured water over it which represented rain. You could see how the rubbish moved around the waterways and ended up in the ocean. We had an excellent time. Thank you EnvironMentor work-shop leaders.

Stage 2 Visits the EnvironMentor Workshop

By Shokoofeh Ishaq 4E During week 1, Stage 2 went to an EnvironMentor workshop in our school. We did lots of fun things. For one activity we had to get into groups of 5 or 6. We were given a poster, then 1 – 3 minutes to practise a short play about what was written on the poster. It was great! We also talked about littering and how it can harm animals living near or under the sea. The best part was when Hailey asked us questions and we had to answer them. We learnt lots of inter-esting things about the damage that littering can cause.
