WE CAN HELP YOU MAKE YOUR MONEY WORK HARDEROur clients rely on us to help protect and grow their wealth. They value our ability to give them peace of mind and intelligently manage their long-term financial aspirations – like finding tax-efficient ways to invest a lump sum, setting up a retirement plan or reducing inheritance tax.

Individuals, charities and organisations trust our ability to seek out suitable investment opportunities, whatever the economic climate – we have the means to adapt quickly and help make a meaningful difference to your finances in today’s fast-changing markets.

As the investment world becomes more complex, you can take confidence from a relationship where your interests come first. We also have annual face-to-face client reviews to make sure everything is on track.

Restricted advice, not restricted quality of service While Brewin Dolphin looks across a wide range of financial products and services in order to meet your needs and objectives, we will not review all Retail Investment Products in the market. As such we offer a ‘Restricted Advice’ service.

To help you achieve your financial goals, it’s very important we get to know you. The more we discover, the better quality of service we can give.

We explore your personal financial objectives and discuss whether integrated financial management, investment management or financial planning would suit you best. We find out how much risk you are comfortable taking and can afford to take. You might have to accept a greater level of risk to achieve the potential for higher returns.

Of course, you may prefer to take very little risk, and be content with the returns and service from a regular bank account. It’s a fine balance. If you take too little risk your returns may not counter the effects of inflation, while too much could deplete the funds you have in the event of a downturn. This is where our experience truly comes into play.

So if you think you would benefit from astute financial planning and proven investment strategies – with a prudent approach to all of your finances – why not join the many clients across the North East who trust Brewin Dolphin?

What is discretionary wealth management? Discretionary wealth management is what our investment management service is known as. You delegate the day-to-day management of your investments to your investment manager. This will suit investors who prefer the peace of mind associated with having their affairs looked after by someone with both experience and knowledge and who can act quickly on their behalf.

WHERE EXPERIENCE MAKES A DIFFERENCE: ESTABLISHING WHAT’S RIGHT FOR YOU

The value of investments can fall and you may get back less than you invested.

A secure future demands careful preparation, but getting there needn’t be difficult. This focus on clarity is why many of our clients rely on our integrated financial management service – where we combine our investment management and financial planning expertise.

We look at your complete financial situation to devise an approach that suits you. We recognise that unpredictable stock markets need careful navigation, complicated insurance products need explaining and the intricate tax landscape requires proven know-how.

So we aim to ensure you get the right mix of services, and that we can respond to changes in both the marketplace and your circumstances to help you attain financial security.

What is financial planning?Financial planning is carried out by professionals who skilfully help you manage your financial affairs and ensure you achieve your future needs. They use their experience to devise a personalised approach to such areas as retirement planning, life assurance and income protection and help you navigate the complexities of taxation including inheritance tax. Importantly, by seeking to understand all of your finances – such as the impact, for example, putting more in a retirement fund may have on your future tax liabilities – we can create a structure that is suitable to your particular situation.

What is investment management?Investment management is a service offered by qualified and experienced professionals who invest money on behalf of others. Their knowledge covers a broad range of investments such as stocks and bonds, property and commodities, and where, for example, to seek out better returns when interest rates are low. They actively find the best ways to make the most of your money. Our investment managers are highly trained, and, supported by our award-winning research capabilities, can create a robust portfolio that reflects your individual requirements.

A FINANCIAL PLANNING SERVICE THAT ADAPTS TO YOUR NEEDS AND IS RELEVANT TO YOUR FUTURETo ensure that your future goals and aspirations are on track, you need to have a plan that is solid enough to meet your demands but flexible enough to adapt when necessary. Many of us could do with a hand in this respect, and many of our clients value the expertise our financial planners bring – it is likely we have come across certain circumstances similar to yours before. We have the breadth, knowledge and proven experience to offer truly personalised advice across every aspect of your finances.

We are not tied to a pre-selected panel of providers, and look across a wide range of financial products and services in order to meet your

needs and objectives. After we meet with you to gain a clear understanding of your requirements, our financial planners put together a strategy that is flexible enough to adapt when your life changes.

Our comprehensive financial planning advice spans several key areas. These include retirement planning, protection, taxation, trusts and inheritance tax planning, as well as investment advice in conjunction with our investment managers.

Retirement planning – guiding you through the mazeOur experts can advise on all aspects of retirement planning, including reviewing your existing pension arrangements. As part of the process of sourcing a suitable pension, our financial planners can explain the benefits of more individual solutions such as Self Invested Personal Pensions (SIPPs) and help you decide whether an annuity is right for you.

Protection – safeguarding your financial wellbeingProtection is the broad term for a range of financial products which aim to safeguard you and your family’s financial wellbeing – whatever life may throw at you. These include life assurance (a lump sum for your dependants if the worst happens), income protection (helps you sustain your lifestyle if accident or illness mean you can’t work) and critical illness cover (a lump sum if you contract a severe illness covered by the policy). We search across the protection market to find the most appropriate solutions for your circumstances – with the aim of giving you and your family greater peace of mind.

Taxation, trusts and inheritance tax planning – in-house expertise makes a differenceAstute tax planning is vital to ensure that all of your money works smarter (and so more of your wealth passes to your family and less to HMRC). Our in-house expertise in tax-effective structures such as ISAs and pensions takes into account your tax position when planning and gives you personalised investment advice. Investing offshore can also deliver significant tax advantages and provide you access to investments not available in the UK.

Investment advice built on a cohesive strategy Our financial planners work closely with our experienced teams of investment managers so we can take a complete view of your finances – and act promptly in your favour where necessary. This approach ensures we can fully analyse your current investments, helping you to create a truly personalised and seamless way of managing your money efficiently.

For example, your investment manager has the knowhow to construct your ISA portfolio so that it complements your other investments. We can also arrange the transfer of existing ISAs so they are managed elsewhere within the context of your overall investment portfolio.

5

You should be aware that all tax advantages are subject to changes in legislation and their value depends on your personal circumstances. Your adviser will be happy to discuss any of these in greater detail. None of our services are suitable for everyone, but we can advise you on the services that are suitable for you. The value of investments can fall and you may get back less than you invested.

We are one of the largest independently-owned discretionary wealth managers in the UK, with offices throughout the country including the Channel Islands and over £28 billion in funds under management.

Our roots in the North East are extremely strong and can be traced back to the founding of Wise Speke in 1903. Wise Speke was a business that grew successfully and developed a strong regional clientele. It joined Brewin Dolphin in 1998 and took the group name in 2008 to coincide with our move to larger newly built offices in Newcastle.

Our success is founded on a firm belief that, because your financial needs are unique, the wealth management advice you receive should be too. We’ve worked this way for generations, providing individually crafted solutions that help our clients to preserve and create wealth.

Today, we are putting that accumulated experience to work for many thousands of clients including private clients, charities and pension funds.
