We hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and

best wishes to all for a Merry Christmas and

Happy New Year!We had another great gathering at Flo’s and it is always good to see that our members are still participating in

our great conversations, planning and much laughter.

Two of our members recently had hip surgeries this year and are on the mend for the coming year and we arehoping they are feeling better by riding time. We have all of you in our prayers.

During our discussions, the members have decided that the gatherings for winter months of January, February and March will be againat Flo’s and the time will change to 11:30AM for lunch than a meeting to follow. This will allow our members to “sleep in” and also haveenough time to attend the gathering in case it snows the night before and we need to “shovel” ourselves out. But of course, if there is in-clement weather we would always postpone our gathering so that our members stay safe at home.

Our Annual Christmas Party will be held on December 10th and will be held at the Franklin Hotel, in Rome, NY. We want to againthank Jack Bisgrove for taking the lead on this event and letting us know that Santa will provide gifts for all. Proves to be a planned goodtime as always.

Our Chapter was able to muster up enough Dash For Cash points and therefore have been awarded the $50.00 towards our Chapter feesfor 2017. Great Job to all!!

The NY/NJ Bi State is approaching quickly. The organizational meetings are in full swing. Many members from various chapters whostepped up to be on this committee for this event met with the incoming NY District Directors, Shawn and Dawn Hayes on November 6th atthe Hope Lake Lodge. Great ideas came out of that first meeting and we will be moving forward to continue to organize this great event. Wenever have enough help for these types of events. If you or know of someone who would like to participate in these meetings, please contactShawn Hayes As Soon As Possible. His email contact information is: [email protected]. We would love to see you there.

Reminder, if you are planning on attending the Maryland District Winter thing, January 5th thru the 7th, 2017, send in your reservationto them soon and it is also suggested that you need to reserve your room by December 16th.

As we step down from being Chapter’s “T”’s Directors, we will hand the baton over to the 2017 incoming Directors Linda and ClarkClemens. We know that they will do a great job for the chapter and we will be there for any support that they may need. A few membershave also stepped up to support the Chapter: Kathy Degroff as Recording Secretary, Angela Wingerger as MEC, Jim Thayer advised thathe will continue to be the Rider Educator and Newsletter Editor for 2017.Mary Ann Bennett will handle the ice cream and dinner rideschedules. Jack Bisgrove will remain as our Treasurer. What a great year to look forward to with those members who have stepped up.

We will being going on to a new adventure as of January 1st, 2017, being that Janice and I have accepted the position of NY DistrictAssistant Directors . After we were approached by Shawn and Dawn Hayes, incoming NY District Directors, after pondering over this forthe past month, we have decided to accept this position, and felt that this would be something that we would like to endure. What we haveaccomplished from being chapter directors we can apply this knowledge and experience to our new role. This does not mean that we willleave Chapter “T” by all means. We will be there, like we are now, supporting rides, gatherings, dinners and to help the chapter grow.

We congratulated Trish Thayer as she has accepted the position as the NY District MEC, effective January 1,2017. The selection ofTrish to fulfill this position was due to her hard work and personal interaction with new and present GWRRA members. Again, Congratula-tions Trish!

Well Old Man Winter surely got an early start this year! Here we are in the week of Thanks-giving and we have had our first major snow of the season. I would assume most of you got

somewhere from 20 to over 30 inches of the white stuff. Well the ski resorts are happy at least.

Now it’s time to get ready for more winter and dealing with different driving patterns it brings. Most of us have hadmany years of experience driving in the snow and ice, but we all can still use reminders to help us stay alert to changingroad conditions and inattentive, distracted and unaware drivers on the road with us.

First off, how is vehicle handling on the slippery roads. You say you just put tires on it this year, or you just bought anew car this summer, so you don’t need to worry about tires. Well all tires are not created equal on the road. Many carsand tires claiming high mileage and better gas mileage might not be so good in temperatures below 40°. Most tiresclaiming high mileage for tread ware and top gas mileage are made of harder rubber compounds that loose most oftheir useful traction in the colder weather. They might have great tread depth, but they won’t flex enough to shed thesnow trapped in them, or have any grip for starting and stopping on the cold pavement. Many minor accidents could beavoided buy buying the proper tires for winter. The cost for tires could be cheaper than your deductable compoundedwith increased insurance rates.

Here’s a few more tips for the winter from past years. By Justin Stoltzfus

Slow down. A little more caution makes a lot of difference when roads are slick. Slowing down by 5 mph or more, and drivingon low-speed roads, will help limit you potential for damage in a collision. Keeping more car lengths between vehicles gives youmore time for any sudden stop too.

Know Your Extras. This is a big one for those driving newer, more tech-equipped vehicles: it's critically important to under-stand how your safety features work. The biggest example? Anti-lock brakes. Where tapping brakes works for controlling skid intraditional braking, pumping ABS can be dangerous. Road safety experts and law enforcement professionals know that anti-lockbrakes and other features are no substitute for safe stopping distances and reasonable speeds - and that goes for other high-techfeatures like traction control as well. Even some more traditional features of a vehicle can be confusing - for example, experts warnagainst using cruise control on slick roads.

Condition Your Vehicle For Winter. In some states thatget the most winter weather, drivers are allowed to put on items liketire chains or tire studs to add traction. In other states, these addi-tions are illegal because they can tear up roads. Check with yourstate DMV to see whether these winter preparations are appropriatewhere you live. And, no matter what state you're in, it's a good ideato keep tires at proper inflation. Another major part of maintenanceis directly related to winter: drivers should take care to remove trou-blesome ice from the windshield and windows, and big drifts of snowfrom the hood and cabin top, in order to prevent problems with visi-bility.

Stock A Winter Emergency Kit. In the event that youdo have to pull over during a major storm or find yourself with abroken-down vehicle, be prepared with a winter emergency kit. Rec-ommended items include: a flashlight and batteries, hand-warmers,blankets, drinking water, shovel and ice scraper, jumper cables, andstandalone emergency lights or flares.

All of these helpful driving tips can assist drivers in keepingthemselves and others safe this winter.

P.S. It's helpful to practice winter driving techniques in asnowy, open parking lot, so you're familiar with how your car han-dles. Consult your owner's manual for tips specific to your vehicle.

Honda GL1800 Rear HarnessGrounds Posted on March 31, 2016 by admin

As any motorcycle ages, design defects begin to show. Things the manufacturer can’t simulate in a few years of testing.

One of those are 2 ground wires on the GL1800. The first one is up behind the left fairing pocket. The one we are going todiscuss is the rear light feed.

If your bike has strange light issues…turn a signal on and the other ‘ghost flashes’ (faint glow). Hit the brakes and yourturn signals come on. You more than likely have a ground issue. The bike we are about to show you is a 2006 GL1800. Thislarge grey connector is the rear light feed. All the wires are 18ga except the ground; it appears to be 14ga…maybe a 16. Thewire is large enough for the load, but the tiny metal terminal inside it is not. It gets hot from the resistance. This in turn dam-ages the housing. Take a look at the pics…..

So what we did was remove that tiny terminal. We could not get the metal pin out of the other side due to heat damage.Cut the wire, stripped it back and installed a large brass terminal that was used on the GL1500 headlight. Way more surface

area and reduced resistance make for anideal fix.

That is the ‘light side’ of the connector….those wiresgo to the rear tail lights. Below is the bike side.
