Anotace Tento DUM rozšiřuje znalosti o nejznámějších svátcích v anglicky mluvících zemích. Tato část pokrývá oblast svátků společných v obou zemích (UK + USA).

Metodický pokynPrezentaci lze použít v rámci přípravy pro 3. část ústní MZ. Studenti se seznámí a prohloubí znalosti kulturního dění v anglicky mluvících zemích. Pro tento DUM je ve třídě nutný data projektor.

St. Valentine´s Day – 14th February • lovers´ day• sending anonymous cards (Valentine cards),

exchanging gifts (flowers, chocolates, teddy bears etc.)

All Fools´Day – 1st April• playing practical jokes and tricks on other

Easter – March / April = movable holiday• beginning of spring, new life• religion – Jesus Christ crucified (= died on the cross) – Good Friday resurrected (= brought to life again) – Easter Sunday• symbols – easter eggs, Easter Bunny – egg hunt for children

believed the souls of dead come back to earth• later Christianized = All Saint´s Eve –

honouring the dead• symbols – jack-o´-lanterns = pumpkins with

carved scary faces and candle lit inside

veterans of all wars – parades, silences• end of WWI in 1918• symbol – red poppies worn on clothes

trees, hanging mistletoe, preparing presents, singing carols

24th Dec. = Christmas Eve – not a holiday

• before going to bed children hang up Ch. stockings - believe Santa Claus / Father Christmas comes down the chimney and fills the stockings with little presents

25th Dec. = Christmas Day • unwrapping presents under Ch. tree• Ch. dinner – roast turkey with stuffing, roast

potatoes, Ch. pudding (sort of cake with dried fruit, nuts)
