H-E-B Surprises Maplebrook’s Lisa Guin with $1,000 Congratulations to Maplebrook Elementary’s Lisa Guin, who was named a finalist in the H-E-B Excellence in Educa- tion Awards! e announcement came as a surprise to Guin, who received balloons, cake, flowers and a $1,000 check. MBE and District administration, staff, and Guin’s family members were also present to share in the celebration. She is one of 30 regional finalists in various teaching categories. “Lisa is a creative, fun, engaging and very talented teach- er,” said Marcia Reineking, MBE Principal. “She’s one of the best teachers I’ve known.” Guin has 13 years of teaching experience, and taught sec- ond and then fourth grade at Maplebrook for the past 10 years since the school’s opening in 2001. She found her pas- sion for teaching while volunteering at her son’s school. “e more time I spent volunteering, and working on pho- nics and reading with my kids at home,” remembers Guin, “it became clear I had a knack for teaching.” Guin’s love for teaching is appreciated by all around her. She was recently named Maplebrook Elementary’s Teacher of the Year, and soon aſter was named one of ten finalists for District Teacher of the Year. Guin will be honored at the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards banquet on May 3, when the winners for each category will be announced. e Excellence in Education Awards celebrate public school professionals who inspire a love of learning in stu- dents. To date, H-E-B has awarded more than $800,000 to teachers, principals, schools, districts and early childhood facilities.
