Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the 23rd Pontiff of Sri

Jagadguru Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana

Math, known as Sri Suttur Math, inherited the

legacy of the 10th century old Srimath at an early

age. He was born in 1916 and ascended the

Peetha in 1928 when he was hardly twelve. He

shared the responsibilities with his senior,

J a g a d g u r u M a n t h r a M a h a r s h i S r i

Shivarathreeshwara Mahaswamiji. Ever since he

assumed the responsibilities of Math, every step

he took forward was in search of new areas of

service.

The burning desire to assuage the educational

needs of thousands of rural children, he started the

first free hostel at Mysore in 1941. Thus, began his

journey of socio-economic transformation of the

region, with the establishment of Sanskrit

Patashalas, Schools, Colleges and other social

and cultural organizations in and around Mysore.

A single-minded dedication to a task aimed at the

welfare of all alone goaded him to trudge a path of

sacrifice. The incredible divine grace coupled with

his intense and sustained efforts to provide

education for all, resulted in establishment of free

schools and hostels, professional colleges,

centres of art, music, and literature etc.

Shivarathreeshwara Mahavidyapeetha in 1954 to

ensure that the efforts of the Sri Math in the field of

education and societal transformation can

progress with more rigour. Under the untiring

efforts of Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra

Mahaswamiji, the JSS Mahavidyapeetha

witnessed enormous growth in all the fields and

levels of education. Millions of children, men,

women and physically challenged found solace

under his boundless compassion.

After the earthly sojourn of His Holiness Swamiji,

he attained heavenly abode on 6th December

1986, and his indomitable spirit lingers over the

300 institutions across the continents. The

centenary birth anniversary of Jagadguru Dr.

Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji was celebrated

in 2015 by the devotees all over the world as a

token of expressing the respect and gratitude to

the ever-loving spirit of this Noble Saint and by

following his principle of ̀ work is worship'.

The year 2020 that witnessed devastating effects

across the globe, once again saw the JSS

Mahavidyapeetha and the Sri Math continuing to

support the needy and those in despair by

providing them shelter, healthcare, education, and

food. Thus the saga of Sri Suttur Math continues

and the 105th Jayanthi Celebrations of this Noble

Saint and visionary is being celebrated on 29th

August, this year and the various activities are

planned through a v i r tual p lat form to

commemorate his great contribution to humanity.
