Good afternoon everybody. I extend a warm welcome to our Chief Guest
Mr.Parag Desai, Dr. Kalro-Academic Advisor AES, and other AES members,
Directors of institutes on campus, members of H L College Alumni Association,
invitee members of the Wagh Bakri group, _________________ on the
occasion of the 79th Annual Day Celebration of our college.
Today is a day of joy when the college takes pride in reminiscing and
recounting all the glorious victories and vivacious events that H L has had in
the Academic Year 2015-16. To mark this most important day we have as our
chief guest Shri Parag Desai, Executive Director of Wagh Bakri Tea Group.
Mr. Parag Desai is a 4th generation entrepreneur in the Wagh Bakri Tea family
and is spearheading the Sales, Marketing & International Business in the
group. He is also a skilled Tea connoisseur. Mr. Parag Desai holds a Masters in
Business Administration from the Long Island University, USA. He was the first
Indian to win the “All America Direct Marketing Award”, held annually between
graduate students across all universities in the USA.
In the last 15 years, the Wagh Bakri Group has progressed massively under his
leadership. As part of expansion plans he has launched various brands and
innovative products in India as well as the International Markets. The group has
established foot prints in 11 Indian states and has forayed in 30 countries
across the globe. He pioneered the concept of online Tea selling. He is also
responsible for leading the group in new formats like “Wagh Bakri Tea
Lounges” in Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Delhi.
Today Wagh Bakri Group is one of the top 3 tea companies in the country and
one of the top 10 most trusted beverage brands in the country (As per the
Brand Equity ‘Most Trusted Brands in India’).
Mr Desai is the recipient of “Marketing Man of the Year” award conferred by
AMA (Ahmedabad Management Association) and is active in CII, TPAI, GCCI,
IIMC and TIE.

Ladies & gentlemen, I believe that the sole purpose of education is to turn
mirrors into windows and team HLCC has been providing a panoramic view
through the windows to widen the Horizons of HL’ites. Together we provide the
environment that facilitates growth and enrichment.
Year 2015-16 has been a year full of collaborations, research and enthusiastic
activities for all at HLCC. I feel happy to present before you our Annual Report
of 2015-16.
Through the centralized admission process, once again HLCC was the
preferred undergrad destination among Gujarat University Colleges with
highest cut off of 95.80% and the lowest cut off was 84.00% for the general
category.
I do not have the privilege of announcing the names of our students who have
received the Gold Medals at Gujarat University 2014-15 exams as they have
yet not announced the list, but I am confident that as usual we will be having a
good haul.
In 2014-15,
At the First B Com Sem I we had 13 out of 50 Gujarat University topper toppers
a pass out rate of 72% with 162 securing 1st class,
At the First B Com Sem II we had 10 out of 50 Gujarat University toppers, a
pass out rate of 71% with 155 1st classes,
at the Second B Com Sem III we had 9 out of 50 Gujarat University toppers,
our pass out rate was 69% with 138 1st classes,
at the Second B Com Sem IV we had 8 out of 50 Gujarat University toppers,
our pass out rate was 73% with 134 1st classes,
at the Third B Com Sem V we had 6 out of 50 Gujarat University toppers, our
pass out rate was 75% with 142 1st class,

at the Third B Com Sem VI we had 12 out of 50 Gujarat University toppers, our
pass out rate was 66.40% with 191 1st class,
In M.Com sem 2, our pass out rate 95.62%,
And at the M.Com sem 4, our pass out rate was 86.15% with 44% 1st class.
Mr. Kishan Haresh Patel secured the 11th rank at All
India level and 2nd rank in Ahmedabad at the C S
Foundation Exam held at All India level in June’ 2015.
At the CS Foundation exam of December 2015, 4 of
our students were in the limelight at the National
Level. Amarjeet Kaur L Khandal secured 8th rank at the
All India and 1st rank at Ahmedabad, Aishwarya H Parekh stood at 10th rank at
the All India and 2nd rank at Ahmedabad, Khushbu Khambhorja ranked 11th at
the All India and 3rd at Ahmedabad, Khushboo Parikh secured 13th rank at the
All India and 4th rank at Ahmedabad.
SPORTS ACHIEVEMENT
Winning Gold medals is never an easy task, it requires a lot of grit, gumption
and belief in one’s self and HLCC sports enthusiasts have proven this, through
their National and International achievements.
Swimming:
Mr. Neil Contractor:
Represented India at the Asian Age Group Championship held
at Bangkok and won 1 Gold & 1 Bronze medal. He also
represented India for South Asian Games held at Gauhati, and
won 1 Gold & 1 Silver medal. He won 3 Silver & 2 Bronze
medal in 69th Senior National Swimming Competition. He also
awarded the prestigious Eklavya Senior Award by Government

of Gujarat with cash prize Rs. 1 lacs & memento. Presently he is being trained
by specialist coach from USA Mr. Cemal Luckovac for qualifying meet for
Olympic Games (RIO).
Roller skating Ms. Anoli Shah:
Represented Gujarat for RSFI National Championship and won 3 Silver & 2
Bronze Medals. She was the only skater from Gujarat
who won 5 medals in National Championship. She also
won 4 Gold medals in 35th National Roller Skating
Championship & became the State Champion. She was
awarded the Jaydipsinhji Bariya Senior Award by
Government of Gujarat. She also won 2 Gold medal in
Khel Mahakumbh District Championship & 2 Silver Medal at State
Championship.
Ms. Aashini Shah:
She won 2 Gold & 2 Silver medal at the 35th Gujarat State
Roller Skating Championship. She also won 2 Silver
medal at Khel Mahakumbh District Championship & 2 Gold
Medal at State Championship.
Mr. Shlok Gandhi:
He won 1 Gold & 2 Silver medal at the RSFI state championship held at
Ahmedabad & represented the State for National
Championship held at Pune. He also won 1 Silver & 1
Bronze medal at National Ice Skating Championship held
at Surat. He also awarded Sardar Patel Junior Award by
Government of Gujarat with memento and cash prize of
Rs. 25,000/-.

Mr. Raxlee Taylor:
Represented Gujarat for Ranji Trophy, Under 23 C.K.
Naidu Trophy, Saiyad Mustag Ali Trophy & Deodhar
Trophy & made a total 380 runs with 1 century.
Mr. Meet Shah and Mr. Dhrushan Soni: Represented State for under 23 C.K. Naidu Trophy tournaments. Mr. Harsh Shastri: Represented Gujarat for under 19 Vinu Mankad Trophy.
Badminton Mr. Adrian George:
He won Men’s Double title at Open Gujarat Major Ranking
Tournament held. He also won Singles & Doubles title at
Gujarat Major Ranking Tournament held at Silvasa and
Surat.

Ms. Pinkal Chauhan:
She represented Gujarat for Federation Cup National
Competition, at 27th West Zone Athletic Championship also at
31st Junior National Athletic Championship.
Table Tennis Ms. Hely Shah:
She Represented Gujarat at 77th Senior National
Championship. She also won Singles & Doubles at All India
JITO Games and won Gold medal at 6th Open Gujarat State
Championship. Currently she is No. 2 in Youth Girls and
No. 5 in Women in State.
Mr. Monish Dedhia: He secured 2nd place in Singles & Doubles at All India JITO
Games and represented the state at 5 Major ranking
tournaments.
Basket Ball
Ms. Fatema Masvi and Mr. Pujan Patel:
Represented Gujarat for 65th Senior
National Basketball Championship held at
Mysore.

YOUTH FESTIVAL – 2015-16
The Inter University West Zone Youth Festival, Rahul Kushwaha represented
the University in Classical Instrumental(percussion), Komal Israni and Shruti
Nair in Debate and Hardi Nanavati in Poster Making.
At the YOUTH FESTIVAL-Inter Zonal Level
Manit Shah, Nihar Bhatt, Priyanshi Shastri,Bhranti Thaker,Pushplata Upadhyay
stood first in the skit
At Guj. University North Zone Youth Festival Inter College Level our
college was among the best 3 11 events including
classical vocal Dyuti Buch, Indian group song, (Dyuti
Buch, Aparajita Singh, Shraddha Savaliya, Niti
Nimavat, Mauravi Munshi and Kajal Prajapati).
Western group song (Anmol Shah, Krishna Bodiwala,
Shail Mehta, Shrilakshmi Nair, Vishwarani Jadeja and
Mariya Ashique), Extempore (Krupali Hajarnis), mimicry (Pratik Sharma),
rangoli (Kunjal Malamdi) and Quiz (Iffat Sheikh, Hetuk Trivedi and Shyam
Ashara).
Harmony Music Club:
Kajal prajapati won 2nd prize(and cash of Rs. 1200/-) at
inter Collegiate Music competition “Sur-Sangeet”
organized by M P Arts and Commerce College on 19th

The winner of the Trophy was S.M.Patel Institute of Commerce.
Iffat Shaikh was awarded the title of “Commerce Idol of
Gujarat” at a State level competition by C. U. Shah Commerce
College. She was declared 3rd Best Participant in overall
performance at Intellectus-2016 organized by HLIC, in which
she got FIRST prize in essay writing competition, SECOND in Personality
contest and THIRD in Book Review competition.
Kishan Desai was the runner up at the “Spellbug” competiton
organized by HLIC.
Hardi Nanavati is representing Gujarat University at the
Indo-Japan Students Exchange Programme with the
Otemon Gokuin University, Japan.
Hina Shaikh bagged the Best Speaker Prize at the Inter
Collegiate Swami Vivekanand Elocution Trophy
Competition organized by SMPIC.
Shruti Nair and Pooja Taparia lifted N
R Construction Shield at Vijay Padma
Elocution Competition hosted by C.
U. Shah Arts College. Shruti was also
awarded 2nd Best Individual Speaker
at this Competition and at All Gujarat

Shail Mehta was awarded 2nd prize at Inter collegiate
Pustak Gyan Pratibha Shodh Kasoti and at a state level
Essay writing competition.

Under the expert guidance of a free-lance trainer
and our MCom students Mr. Jainil Shah, 25 students
received practical training in Public Speaking in a 5 day
workshop.

C. Dwivedi Inter-Class Elocution Trophy
competition for Excellence in Oratory
and Public Speaking. Hina Shaikh bagged the 1st prize and
the Orator of the Year Trophy. Shruti Nair secured 2nd
prize.
The Rainbow Palette Club:
Workshop of Fine arts activities Three days workshop by Ms.Pooja

INTERCOLLEGIATE COMPETITIONS
Hardi Nanavati secured 2nd position in on the spot painting
competition hosted by SRI DIVYA JIVAN SANSKRUTI SANGH-
SIVANANDA ASHRAM. She got a certificate and cash prize of
3500/-
Kunjal Malmadi and Hetashree Shah got 1st
position in Rangoli and Quelling resepectively
and Jayati Agarwal got 2nd prize in on the
spot painting competition at ART CARNIVAL
Intercollegiate Competition hosted by HLCC.
Theater Artist Group: Conducted a week long workshop. Our team comprising of Manit Shah, Pratik Sharma, Pushpalata Upadhyay, Yagya Mishra, Bhranti Thaker, Paras Chaudhary, Nihar Bhatt, Prerak Parekh, Pooja Sakhare received the 3rd at One act Play State Level Competition hosted by Indian National Theatre and Gujarat Samachar, Pratik Sharma received Best Actor Award and Paras Chaudhary was declare Best Comedian. Xavier's College Inter Collegiate Skit Competition HLCC Team bagged the 1st prize. Team comprised of Manit Shah, Nihar Bhatt, Bhranti Thaker, Pushpalata Upadhyay. Einstein Protégées:
Our team comprising of Iffat Sheikh and
Shashank Rakesh were the winners of the
T. S. Nanavati Quiz Contest. They were
also the 1st runner up in the Nirmaquest
and the 2nd runners up in Cognoscence
and Spandan. In the Inter Collegiate Quiz (Written) Competition for UG
Students, the first runners up were Hetuk Trivedi and Shyam Ashra.

Annual print issue of HL Times for the year 2015-16 was launched amidst
much fanfare in presence of star cast of the famous Gujarati movie: chello
divas! Yash soni & Kinjal Rajpriya, Shri Ankit Trivedi, renowned Gujarati writer
and poet and Mr. Bhumik shah singer were there at the launch of the
magazine.

CWDC :
A Self-Defense training programme
was organized by CWDC of our
college in association with Suraksha
Setu Society (Ahmedabad). where
250 girls participated.
CWDC also organized a 3 hours’
workshop on chocolate making, 30
students participated in the workshop.
Udisha – Placement Cell
Udisha-Placement cell of the college facilitates on campus recruitment by
giving a common platform to students seeking jobs. It invites companies related
to finance, human resources, marketing and other recruiters to be a part of the
placement process at HLCC.
Smit Parekh and Poonam Solanke (FY) got selected as Research Assistant in
one month programme at IIM Ahmedabad in August –Sept 2015.

NCC:
In the history of Gujarat University, SUO Sanjaysinh Rathod
for the consecutive second year secured Gold Medal in
Gujarat University NCC Best Cadet Competition – ARMY
Wing year 2015-16, and was selected for the Officer’s
Training Academy Kamptee for SSB capsule training camp.
Cadets Solanki Nikhil and Monica Ajmera participated in the
Republic Day Camp held at New Delhi and attended Prime
Minister’s Rally 2016.

Cadet Mitul Vaghela was selected for All India Thal Sainik
Camp 2015 where he secured 2nd position in shooting
competition in All India TSC and he also first position in Inter
Group Competition at Mavalankar shooting competition.
Our 5 Cadets (SUO Sanjaysinh Rathod, UO Pathan Noman Khan, CPL
Bhadauriya Pankaj, L/CPL Solanki Ajay and Cadet Rana Devang )got ‘’A’’
grade in “B” certificate examination under the Authority of Ministry of Defence
Government of India.
6 Cadets (CPL Chavda Tejpalsinh , Chavda Ravi , Rathod Ravirajsinh ,
Solanki Rajesh, Kankare Raj, Solanki Himanshu) attended Basic
Leadership Camp. Our Cadet Bhagora Ishwar attended the National
Integration Camp.
60 cadets attended the International Yoga Day (held 21/06/2015 at the
GMDC ground. 2 of our cadets) SUO Sanjaysinh Rathod and Cadet Priya
Pathak helped conduct the yoga asanas.
Our entire Contingent of Cadets under the leadership of Lt H R Bharucha
conducted the flag hoisting ceremony at our college, on Republic Day
and Independence Day at the Gujarat University.
NSS:
Orientation Program for all new NSS Volunteers by programme officer.
Visit was paid to “Jeevan Sandhya” an old-age home in Naranpura.
Visit to “Environment & Sanitary Centre” Sughad Village.
“Swachchhata Abhiyan” was conducted by NSS Students & Volunteers for
campus cleaning.
Celebration of 15th August & 26th January, by NCC & NSS Students.
Rajpur Rajendrasinh attended Pre-RDC Camp at Nagpur and Republic Day
parade at Veraval.

Care and Share Week:
Under the Care and Share Week we organized:
A spiritual discourse by Shri Ram Charan Dasa of Iskcon Group
Ahmedabad.
Blood Donation Camp in Collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society,
Ahmedabad and collected 78 Units of blood.
A discourse by Dr. Hansal Bhachech a renowned psychiatrist of
Ahmedabad(with Rotary Club of Ahmedabad Mahanagar.)
A seminar by Dr. Jitendra Adhia a well known motivational speaker in
collaboration with Rotary Club of Ahmedabad Mahanagar.
Food grains and clothes were collected for the flood affected Disa taluka
of Banaskantha, District of Gujarat, & it was personally distributed to the
affected people by our team.
HLCC MUN SOCIETY
HLCC Model United Nations, is a milestone for the institution as well as the
MUNning circuit in Gujarat.
With a brilliant organising committee, HLCC MUN 2015-16 has received
overwhelming response over the past 3 years.
From local to national level, the third edition of HLCC MUN saw an increase in
number of delegates as well as the committees (for the model united
nation’s debate). There were around 250 delegates in the third edition. This
year, we received official collaboration from United Nations Information Centre
for India & Bhutan (UNIC), for the 2nd time.
Recognizing the need to reaffirm the role of education for all socio-economic
backgrounds, we have collaborated with the NGO- MakeADifference (MAD).

HLCC SAYEN ECO BUDDY CLUB
Organized a week long environmental awareness initiative - "Cleanathon"
aimed at inculcating the virtue of Cleanliness in students' mind where more
than 100 students took part in it.
The Theatre Artists club performed an Environmental sustainability awareness
skit.
10 Students for HL College of Commerce, participated actively and gave
valuable inputs for the International Conference on Sustainable Development
hosted by the Centre for Environment Education, where they made working
papers.
NEW INITIATIVES
HLCC EMPOWERMENT INITIATIVE is our endeavor to bridge the gap
between industry and academia. Our
attempt at keeping pace with the
changing times has helped us identify
the problem areas of our students and
we have addressed these by offering
following add on courses like:-
Tally Program at HLCC HL College of Commerce entered into a
joint venture with Tally Institute of
Learning (SBP Academy), Ahmedabad
to train its B.Com. and M.Com. students
in Tally ERP 9. 45 students got trained
under this initiative.

Communication skills for work place Besides the SCOPE programme of the State Government we have also offered
a 100 hours certificate course to improve communication skills covering broad
areas of marketing, sales and services
Training programme for competitive exams.
With a view to navigating students in realizing their dreams for Government
jobs we have provided campus coaching for competitive exams at a very
reasonable fees. The first batch of 75 students was launched on 1-1-2016. Due
to the over-whelming response of the students, the second batch (in May 2016)
and third batch (in July 2016) are also planned. The course prepares GPSC
exams, Bank exams, Railway recruitment board exams, Staff Selection
Commission exams, LIC and other Government (class-3) exams.
King of Stock market
As a leading Commerce college, we along with Bombay Stock Exchange(BSE)
took the initiative of inculcating knowledge about investment by organizing an
inter collegiate event, King of Stock market. Meet Shah secured 2nd Prize, Bhargav
paghadal secured 3rd Prize and Vivek Savaj secured the 4th Prize in which 180
students participated.

ART CARNIVAL 2016
ART CARNIVAL 2016 –Intercollegiate fine arts competition was organized
under Rainbow Palette Club. It was a two
day event containing five competitions
namely – On the spot painting, Quelling,
Card making, Salad decoration and
Rangoli.
Ahmedabad Zone Sports Meet ATHLETIC MEET
Gujarat University Ahmedabad Zone
Intercollegiate Athletics meet was hosted
by HLCC for the 4th consecutive year. The
finals were held at Gujarat University
Cynder Track on 11th to 13th January,
2016. 75 Colleges participated in this
tournament with 600 students
participating in 36 events.

Evening Gurukul
The most powerful minds in the society are the most
concerned for others. HLCC has started an Evening Gurukul
for underprivileged students as an outreach programme.
Mr.Shashank Rakesh of M.com is spearheading the initiative
and will be amply supported by HLCC.
Infostrings Club :
An Interactive Seminar on Legal Education was held in August. Ms. Bharti
Rathod, Additional Civil Judge and Ms. Neha Ratusaria also Additional Civil
Judge Ahmedabad District Court were the experts who enlightened our
students on topics like Anti Ragging Laws, Rights of Women, Fundamental

His paper “Hypno-Reiki a Tool to Boost Student
Performance” was published in the RHIMRJ - an

Looking to the frequent depressive tendency and suicides
among the youth, he is also pursuing his research on

among college students”.

On this occasion I remember two members of our HL family who left for
heavenly abode this year Ms. Rishita Parmar Mr. Jayesh Parghi. May god give
them eternal peace.
I would also like to mention that three of our colleagues will have retired when
we celebrate Annual Day 2016-17. Shri Maganbhai Parmar, Shri J R Gadhavi
and Dr. N. J Chaniyara. It is only appropriate to the occasion that we felicitate
them for their dedicated efforts over a long span of time towards this institution.

It is time to say thank you to all well-wishers who have endeavored to carve out
the success story of HLCC’s Annual Year 2015-16. I express my sense of
gratitude to the Ahmedabad Education society especially to Dr. A. H. Kalro, the
Academic Advisor under whose guidance we have charted out our future plan
for Academic as well as Research Activities and to Shri. B M Shah Sir, Director
AES for the unstinting support given by him all our endeavors for the
development of our students and HLCC. I also thank the Heads of all the
Institutions on H L Campus for their co-operation. I express my thanks to the
Alumni Association for their continued support over the years. Very shortly the
sports complex which has been created with the collaborative efforts of the

HL Alumni Association and support from AES, will be declared open for the use
of HL’ites. We express our gratitude to the HLCAA and AES for the same.
Last but not the least I thank my faculty, staff and students for all their efforts in
bringing such multiple accomplishments worth celebrating.
