May 2018May 2018May 2018May 2018

Hello Hosanna,

I really appreciate the time you gave me to deal with my dad’s illness and death. Especially coming after last summer’s sabbatical. I am always amazed at how God works in people’s lives. That journey was very different for me as a son, rather than pastor. But being a pastor, I knew the promises that God has for us and that was very comforting. I pray we all learn to trust in God’s promises.

I might be called to be your pastor but I’ve seen you as better ministers than myself in a variety of situations. I’ve seen you reach out to others and they have responded. Keep up the good work. I’m quickly realizing that there is plenty to do and it is tough to manage being part time. That’s why I am encouraged that you are covering for me. I think Paul noticed the same thing in the early church. He said in 1 Corinthians 12: 27 “All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is part of it.”

We are going to be talking about discipleship the rest of this year – not as scary as it sounds. A disciple is a learner – a learner about God. Hey we are already doing that – learning about God. We’ve talked about love for several years – Jesus said “by this everyone will know you are my disciples, if you love one another”. So now that we have been talking about love, we need to love one another – to do it. Have we??? I think so – we are the body of Christ.

During this spring growing season we are going to think on the ‘soil’ of the church. The ultimate goal of a congregation is to be a community of faith that is ready, willing, and able to respond to God’s call and produce fruit – “thirty, sixty, a hundredfold”. (see Matthew Chapter 13) This works best when we take the time to discover our greatest talents, and have put them in roles we can perform with strength. There would be no burn out and each person would feel valued and know they make meaningful contributions in God’s kingdom. Wow – easy to say but perhaps hard to achieve. Please consider stepping out and trying things and if you don’t know your strengths, let’s talk or give something a try for a little while. We do have a Spiritual Gifts Inventory to help you find your strong spiritual gifts.

I would like Hosanna to be a place where we can provide opportunities for you to live out your faith in service to others, to provide faith-building opportunities for you to grow as a Christian, to provide opportunities for you to develop deep and lasting friendships in community with others, to provide opportunities for lifelong learning as you deepen your understanding of the Bible and the Christian faith, and be good stewards of your financial contributions to your church. We are working with an online resource called RightNow Media that provides Christian videos designed to teach on a variety of subjects. Kind of like the "Netflix of Video Bible Studies" because you will have instant access to thousands of great videos for kids, youth, parents, married couples and more. You can view these videos from your phone, tablet, computer, and TV app.

No matter what is going on in our lives now or in the near future, Jesus has won the war for our eternal future. By his blood on the cross, death and resurrection Jesus changes everything for us. A wonderful video series on this can be found at RightNow Media called ‘Easter Experience’ by Kyle Idleman.

With this knowledge of our eternal future guaranteed, it’s important that we support and encourage one another now – together we can help each other bear our current burdens and trust in Christ’s work on the cross. We are beginning to see the benefits of that already – we seem to be more of a family who shares, supports, and plays together. In Christ with us, we can overcome many obstacles in our lives and enable us to make a difference in the lives of those around us. Pastor Jim

“Building on the Assembly” 2018 Synod Assembly May 31-June 2, 2018

Younes Conference Center—Kearney, NE As we gather in assembly to elect a Bishop you will be participating in building the foundation for the future of the Nebraska Synod. All worship centers, synod serving arms, and organizations joining together at the Synod Assembly on May 31- June 2, 2018 are invited to bring a “wood block” to build the foundation of a cross at the assembly. Your “wood block” should be an 8-inch-long piece of 2 by 4 that is painted, written on, and decorated so that it represents who you are as a valued part of the Nebraska Synod. Use your creativity to show who you are through your “wood block”. We need to have uniformity in our “wood blocks” so please do not exceed the 8-inch-long piece of 2 by 4 and keep all sides as smooth as possible so that the foundation we will be building is sturdy and strong. For more information, or to check out the Speakers, use the link below: http://nebraskasynod.org/events/events-directory/2018-assembly.html

Come and See...Community Matters!

I have a soft spot in my heart for kids you know, especially the little ones. And being their Sunday School teacher has been so much fun and such a blessing to me as I learn about Jesus right along with them.

But then there’s baptism!!! If we are so privileged as to be there at their baptism, at this absolutely holy time where God does His thing and adopts them into His family, we should stand in awe and shout for joy.

At the most recent baptism, I was struck by the following. We read together: As we live with Him and with His people, We grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God. (Service of Holy Baptism)

Come and “live” with Him and His people. Come and see what God is doing.

In Christ’s service,

Claudia
