With this new catalogue, SFS wants to widen its product portfolio and present H-Tec and H-Tec 3D hinges for modern and heavy-duty doors.H-Tec and H-Tec 3D are the ideal solution for High Load, High Performace, Heavy Duty, High Frequency, High Resistance and Heavy applications.These heavy-duty hinges have a maximum load capacity up to 400 kg and are ideal for use on fire protection and smoke resistant doors as well as for safe operation on escape and rescue routes..

Hinge barrel versions and pin lock

H-Tec door hinges are available in different roller versions.

These door hinges have a detachable anti-twist screw pin and concealed stud bolts. They are available with diameters 20 mm (material thickness 3 mm) and 022 mm (material thickness 4 mm). The bearing technology is concealed in the inner hinge barrel. For this type of door hinges, DIN left and DIN right ele-ments can be used. Since the screw without a tool holder should always be on top, the hinge pin must be repositioned if necessary. To do so, loosen and remove the screw with the tool holder. The hinge pin can then be removed and inserted into the opposite end of the hinge barrel. In the process, care must be taken that the two outer hinge barrels and the inner one are aligned so as to avoid any the hinge pin jamming and thus damaging the door hinge. If necessary, these types of hinges can be equipped with one or two additional pin locks to prevent unauthorised loosening of the hinge pin. In this type of pin lock, the hinge pin is secured by a small threaded pin which is screwed ho-rizontally through the barrel in a circular groove of the hinge pin. This threaded pin cannot be accessed when the door is closed. If pin locks are provided for on an ex works basis, it is not necessary to change the hinge pin from DIN left to DIN right. This type of door hinges also includes our heavy-duty hinges with a 400 kg *load capacity.

These H-Tec door hinges have a non-detachable hinge pin and are available with a roller diameter of Ø 20 mm (material thickness 3 mm) as standard. They can therefore be used without repositioning the DIN LS and DIN RS hinge pins. An additional pin lock is not required as these hinges already have permanent pin locks in the outer hinge rollers. The bearing technology is con-cealed in the inner hinge roller and ensures high load capacities up to 200 kg*

If our products are used in damp rooms or exposed to the weather, only stainless steel door hinges should be used. In extreme areas such as coastal regions, premises with aggressive air, such as indoor swimming pools and aci-dic environments, there may be difficulties with the standard materials used by us. In these cases, a custom-made special material should then be ordered after consulting our technical department.

The stated weight capacity value was calculated using a dynamic test carried out according to the RAL standard, involving:

• 200,000 opening movements at 90° • door measuring 2000mm (height) x 1000mm (width) • 2 fitted hinges

It is important to bear in mind not only the stress due to structural factors (weight and dimensions) but also the external factors to which the system is subjected, as these can affect the weight capacity and life-span of the hinge, for example:

• measurements of the door outside the tolerance ranges (width and/or height) • place of installation and use of the door (residential buildings, public buildings, schools, nurseri es, etc.) • frequency of opening • presence of obstacles that prevent opening and/or closing (doorstops, reveals, etc.) • self-opening/self-closing mechanism: Door closers put extra stress on hinges. For a standard door closing device it is recommended that the door mass should be notionally increased by 20%. The effect of a backcheck door closing device is greater and it is recommended that the door mass should be notionally increased by 75%. This has been addressed in BS EN 1935, annex E. • inward or outward opening of the doors • weather conditions • type of door/window material (Wood, PVC-U, Aluminium etc.)

Care should be taken to choose the most suitable system, bearing in mind the factors listed above and the following variables:

• number of hinges fitted • position in which the hinges are fitted • type of hinges fitted

The essential requirements for ensuring the best performance of a hinge are:

• correct installation of the hinge, its accessories and of the door itself • stability and correct installation of the frame

In the case of some of the factors listed overleaf, there are formulas for correct calculation of the stress to which the hinges are prone.

In the case of obstacles, door stops, door closers and door openers, it is advisable to use an additional hinge and in any case to consider the extent of the leverage effect that could occur.

This rule is valid for a maximum of 4 fitted hinges. If the number is any higher, a different type of product should be used. Please contact the SFS intec technical assistance service for advice.

Installation of additional hinges.Additional hinges are usually fitted symmetrically for aesthetic reasons or to ensure pressure on the seal at the centre.In any case, the fitting of additional hinges at the points under greatest stress improves the weight bea-ring capacity.For example:→ if the door is of above standard width (2000mm x 1000mm), the third hinge should be fitted at an ave-rage distance of 300mm from the upper hinge.→when there is a door stop on the floor, the additional hinge should be fitted at a distance of 300mm from the lower one.→when there is a door open/closer and in any other case with 4 recomanded hinges, the third one should be fitted at an average distance of 300mm from the upper one and the forth one should be fitted at a distance of 300mm from the lower one.

To ensure the high quality standards in-house, manufacturing proces-ses are performed on one hand via CNC-controlled processing machines, and, on the other hand, however, still manually by highly qualified specialists. The resulting careful processing, paired with a streamlined business organisation and continuous production controls in accordance with DIN EN 1935:2002, can thus ensure the high quality level which have been set for our H-Tec 3D and H-tec hinges as a target. H-Tec and H-tec 3D hinges are certified according to EN1935:2002, which entitles us to bear the CE marking and includes regular external monitoring and auditing of the QA system by the SKH (Stichting Keuring Hout Netherlands, a notified body in building control procedures).

Hinge class 14 currently represents the highest hinge class. This hinge class relates to a test door mass, i.e. a load capacity of 160 kg. Many of our hinges are certified in this highest hin-ge class 14. This is why these hinges often feature significantly higher load capacities up to 400 kg. These higher load capacities, which we have proven in our own tests, are provided for the corresponding hinge types in our product information, where we do not just specify the maximum 160 kg “standard load capacity.”For hinge specific designation, please refer to the product information

Other general mounting instructions

Milling groovesThe milling grooves for the hinges and the receiving elements are performed in such a manner that the milling edges and surfaces are positioned in parallelto the corresponding edges and surfaces of the mounting components, where thecorresponding surfaces of the wood-mounted components are flush with the corresponding door and frame surfaces.

All components are inserted into the milling grooves in such a manner that the component surfaces are located level on the corresponding milled surfaces.

Fixing boltsThe fixing bolts are inserted in such a manner that the surfaces of the bolt heads are parallel to the corresponding component surfaces, in which the bolts are inserted, before they are screwed into the wood.Basically, the fixing bolts should be predrilled for which self-cutting screws or drilling bits are used.

All screws must be tightened firmly.

Receiving elementsWhen receiving elements are used, the corresponding hinges must be inserted into the corresponding slots of the receiving elements in such a manner, that all roll axes of the door-mounted straps are vertically aligned to each other after the clamping bolts have been tightened.

This also requires the uniform adjustment of the adjusting spindles in the receiving elements, that adjust the door in the width. Otherwise, unnecessary loads and tensions may occur within the door hinge and the receiving elements, resulting in increased wear. This also has an impact on the dimensional accuracy.

Carrying boltsAny carrying bolts that are used should be inserted firmly into the wood. Otherwise, they have no effect and will even loosen the fixation of the hinge at the door or frame.
