The theme for 2011 so far seems to be Change.

Our family has been adjusting to major life changes

since our return from furlough the first of December,

and this past couple of months has proven to be

more of the same.In our last newsletter, I (Christie) told you about

the motorcycle wreck on the way to language class,

and having a plate and screws put in my broken left

femur. Since that surgery in February, I have begun

physical therapy to learn to walk again. I am now at

the point that I can go short distances using a walker,

only using the wheelchair when its a longer trek. My

bone is fusing back together with the help of the

Lord. We are choosing to believe that God has bigger

plans in the long run than those that the doctors are

sharing with us, and we trust you will pray with us for

that, as well. Weve sure been grateful for the

encouragement and concern youve shown to our

    family during this time.

Ken and the girls have adjusted well to having to

serve me, although I have a hard time with

depending on someone else for almost everything I

need. There have been life lessons in this for all of us.

Ken is still recovering well from his open-heart

surgery, and continues to receive good reports on his

progress. God is faithful to lead us through these

    situations.

Many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD...He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths." Isaiah 2:3

We made the decision shortly after the accident to

move to Itaugu, where we are now about an hour closer

to the hospital where my rehabilitation is taking place. We

were invited to live on the grounds of Hogar Ganar, a

facility for abandoned children directed by our friends, the

    Mortons.

Right now, thirty children live in three houses of Hogar

Ganar, with a set of parents in each home. The children

are nurtured and cared for not only physically, but also by

receiving a good education, learning vocational skills, and

most importantly, experiencing the love of the Lord. We

are enjoying getting to know these precious little folks.

The 40-acre complex also includes an elementary andmiddle school, mission team housing, a soccer field and

basketball court, a huge garden, dairy cattle, pigs, tilapia

ponds, chickens, a citrus fruit grove, honey bees, a bakery,

and an administrative building with a counseling office and

medical and dental clinic. We have a banana tree just

outside our back door! Several other missionaries are on

staff at Hogar Ganar, too. We are currently in the process

of getting settled and finding our place here in ministry.

For now we are participating (when the physical

therapy schedule permits) in weekly school devotionals

and Saturday church services for the children who live

here. Weve begun a weekly Bible study and fellowship

meal at our home and are in the process of starting a

second one for young adults in the neighborhood. A

team of students from Lee University will be arriving for

a ten-week stay soon, and were excited about assisting

with their internship, as well. Camille and Caroline

continue with homeschooling but are attending the on-

site school on Mondays, for Guarani and Spanish classes.

They are enjoying getting to know so many new friends

all at once! There are many changes in our day-to-day life, but

were reminded constantly that God was not surprised

by any of this. He has a plan and we are doing our best

to trust Him and follow that plan, for we know that all

things work together for good to them that love God, to

them who are the called according to his purpose .
