Ann Gibson reported that the number of Club members remains at over 200 with 11 new members joining this year. We have also repeated our initiative to bring on a new generation of gardeners by recruiting 9 Junior Members. Special events will be organised for them. The club’s biggest effort was once again our contribution to the Hailey Festival in June. The Scarecrow Competition was more successful than ever, together with Open Gardens. There are still 2 events left on this year’s programme – the Autumn talk and Apple Day. We have once again had a very successful year in terms of both activities and finances, in large part due to our band of “willing volunteers” who turn up when required to provide extra pairs of hands. The Committee is extremely grateful to them all. Additional thanks must go to Pam Simpkins who audits our accounts. Looking forward to next year, the programme will be put together in December, including some changes to keep our offering interesting. There will be scarecrows! Treasurer’s Report A full set of interim accounts was presented to the Members. A copy is attached to the Minutes. Graham Knaggs reported that the Club’s finances continued to remain very healthy but explained that, since the Club’s financial year had not yet ended and more income and expenses were expected from the remaining events, the accounts had not yet been audited. However we are currently showing a profit of approximately £1450 before donations. The members present decided to unanimously accept the accounts, subject to audit. Approval of Donations The Club has recommended that the following donations should be made: i. Bench £ 350 ii. Hailey Herald £ 50 iii. Wood Green Gardening Group £ 250 iv. Riding for the Disabled £ 150 v. Daffodils £ 50 Total £ 850 The recommendations were unanimously approved. After a short discussion Brenda Perigo requested feedback from Wood Green School about how our donations were helping their Group. Ann agreed to pursue this. General Discussion Ann informed the meeting that as part of our investment in club facilities, we had decided to buy an electric apple scratter which will hopefully reduce waiting time for apple juicing. The approximate cost will be £350. There being no other items for discussion, the meeting closed at 7.25 pm. JK 02/11/16

HAILEY & DISTRICT GARDENING CLUB Annual General Meeting

Held on Monday 26 September 2016 At 7.00pm in the Village Hall, Hailey

Present: Ann Gibson, Judith Knaggs, Graham Knaggs, Janet Wyatt, Brenda Perigo, John Gibson, John Aldous, Kathy Slack, Gill Aldous, Ann Latham, Margaret

Mattingley, Tony Mattingley, Martyn Clark.

Apologies: Dawn Franklin, Graham Franklin

Ann Gibson (in the Chair) welcomed the members of the Gardening Club to the Annual General Meeting.

Minutes of the last meeting

The minutes of the last meeting were approved at the committee meeting held on 27 January 2016 and were circulated. All Gardening Club documents, accounts and

minutes are available for inspection by Members at any time upon request and will be available on the Hailey website.

Chair’s Report

Members were issued with a full report of the year’s activities to date. A copy is on record with the minutes and will be available to view on the Hailey website.

Ann Gibson reported that the number of Club members remains at over 200 with 11 new members joining this year. We have also repeated our initiative to bring on a

new generation of gardeners by recruiting 9 Junior Members. Special events will be organised for them.

The club’s biggest effort was once again our contribution to the Hailey Festival in June. The Scarecrow Competition was more successful than ever, together with Open

Gardens. There are still 2 events left on this year’s programme – the Autumn talk and Apple Day. We have once again had a very successful year in terms of both

activities and finances, in large part due to our band of “willing volunteers” who turn up when required to provide extra pairs of hands. The Committee is extremely

grateful to them all. Additional thanks must go to Pam Simpkins who audits our accounts.

Looking forward to next year, the programme will be put together in December, including some changes to keep our offering interesting. There will be scarecrows!

Treasurer’s Report

A full set of interim accounts was presented to the Members. A copy is attached to the Minutes. Graham Knaggs reported that the Club’s finances continued to remain

very healthy but explained that, since the Club’s financial year had not yet ended and more income and expenses were expected from the remaining events, the accounts

had not yet been audited. However we are currently showing a profit of approximately £1450 before donations.

The members present decided to unanimously accept the accounts, subject to audit.

Approval of Donations

The Club has recommended that the following donations should be made:

i. Bench £ 350

ii. Hailey Herald £ 50 iii. Wood Green Gardening Group £ 250 iv. Riding for the Disabled £ 150

v. Daffodils £ 50

Total £ 850

The recommendations were unanimously approved.

After a short discussion Brenda Perigo requested feedback from Wood Green School about how our donations were helping their Group. Ann agreed to pursue this.

Re-election of Committee

Having confirmed their availability for election, a motion to re-elect the committee en masse was proposed by Ann Gibson, seconded by John Gibson and was

unanimously approved.

The re-elected Committee members are Ann Gibson, Dawn Franklin, Graham Franklin, Martyn Clark, Graham Knaggs and Judith Knaggs.

Election of Officers

Ann Gibson, Graham Knaggs and Judith Knaggs have confirmed that they are available for re-election.

• A motion to re-elect Graham Knaggs as Treasurer was proposed by Ann Gibson, seconded by John Gibson and unanimously approved.

• A motion to re-elect Judith Knaggs as Secretary was proposed by Brenda Perigo, seconded by Ann Gibson and unanimously approved.

• A motion to re-elect Ann Gibson as Chair was proposed by Graham Knaggs, seconded by Judith Knaggs and unanimously approved.

General Discussion

Ann informed the meeting that as part of our investment in club facilities, we had decided to buy an electric apple scratter which will hopefully reduce waiting time for

apple juicing. The approximate cost will be £350.

There being no other items for discussion, the meeting closed at 7.25 pm.

Preheat the oven to 1800C /1600C fan / 3500C / gas mark 4.

Lightly grease and line a 23cm / 9 inch round cake tin

In a large bowl whisk together the sugar, eggs and oil for 1-2 minutes. Sift the flour,

bicarbonate of soda and the cinnamon into the bowl and stir through the remaining

cake ingredients.

Pour the mixture into the prepared tin.

Cook for 25-30 minutes, until just firm to the touch.

Cool on a wire rack.

Meanwhile, beat together all the topping ingredients, except the cinnamon. When the cake is cool smooth the topping over the cake, mark with a fork and sprinkle over a little cinnamon.
