Hallucination DequivoqueEffect: An audience member is brought up on stage and takes out a card from a pack of playing cards, tucks that card into their pocket or the pocket of a disinterested third party sight unseen. The participant then is tapped on the head and confirms seeing a pack of playing cards that arent really there and goes through a process to get down to one card, which is then found to be the one card randomly placed into the pocket sight unseen.Method: This is a nice blend of three separate ideas smashed together in a string harmony that apparently gives you the ability to make people see what you want them to see hypnotically and they intuitively sense what the card is through their hallucination. The parts are basically a card force of your choice, a variation of an idea by Gavin and Fraser Parker from True Mysteries 2 called Spatial Hallucination and a very well worked dequivoque ala Dan The Equivocal Choice Man Harlan or Joshua Quinn. Now for the first part, I usually use a simple force of the Jack Of Spades because it is an easy equivoque down to that card. The forces I use most tend to be a behind the back riffle force ala Peter Turner or a classic force ala Dani Diortiz. The card is instantly placed into their pocket and we are ready to move into the apparent hallucination to add another layer, while also creating a little more justification for the Dequivoque. In True Mysteries and True Mysteries Two, Fraser Parker outlines simple principles and formulas to create pseudo hypnotic spells that appear to be controlling your participant in some strangely psychic ways. I HIGHLY recommend his work and think it is a prime example of leveraging out smaller phenomena to create a larger one. In this particular piece your weapons of convictions, implication and multiple realities mixed with verbal tap dancing is your best friend. You literally just have to say these words, do the appropriate gestures and really build the experience to make it almost universally real for your audience. Can you stand right here for me, can you hold out your hands and go ahead and describe what youre seeing right there. Nothing, right? Now obviously there isnt a fresh pack of cards resting in your hand, but if you imagine what it would be like if there was (tap on head here) and you can begin to describe what youre seeing here now. I know these will sound like unnecessary questions, but what color is the box? Please remove them from the box and as you spread through the pack, youll notice their in new deck order in clubs, hearts, spades and diamonds. Go ahead and split the deck at the middle with a half in each hand, which pack do you not want? From this point we are playing that the cards are really there and actively attempting to hallucinate them up ourselves as well. The dequivoke I use is a combination of a few different ideas that Ive acquired over the past few years from the likes of Dan Harlan, Hector Chadwick, Joshua Quinn and Colin McCleod and in my opinion goes beyond the realms of teachings in this book. Use your favorite method and keep playing it for real with the invisible deck of cards as they exchange hands and what not. Finally when you have dequivoqued them down to the Jack Of Spades, you are ready to break the apparent trance and slightly dumbfound the participant before the big revelation. Now lets recap, you placed a card at random into your pocket without letting anyone including yourself see it and now we have another deck here that you have freely chipped away making multiple completely free decisions with numerous people here to get us down to what card, which you have there?Jack of Spades, right and of course as you look at the artwork on the card you may start to feel like youre coming out of a daydream or awaking from a strange vision as that card fades away and you now become aware that you never had a deck of cards at all. I know its strange, did you feel like you were hypnotized there or in some strange trance state? Good, so your strange vision in which you selected a card has given us the Jack Of Spades, how amazing would it be if thats the card in your pocket? Now you just let them take the card out and they WILL lose it, Ive performed this so many times and it always gets a shocked reaction. This is a real worker, take it out and use it wisely.
