Congratulations, trooper. As an ODST recruit, you are part o an elite, voluntary

branch o the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) Marine Corps. Classied

as special orces, ODSTs have earned the nickname Helljumpers because o

our preerred deployment system: single-occupant, exoatmospheric insertion

vehicles (SOEIVs)drop pods red rom Navy ships unable to maintain saeorbit above Covenant-occupied worlds.

SOEIVs are ully automated, but most ODSTs preer to y them manually,

perorming evasive maneuvers to evade hostile re. Be advised: A typical drop

terminates in a rapid deceleration 50 meters or less rom the ground. And while

SOEIVs are rugged systems, their thrusters and air-brakes have been known to

ail, killing the occupant on i mpact. We call this digging your own grave.

Because o the SOEIVs cramped quarters, you will almost always deploy with

lean gear. But there are two weapons no ODST would ever jump without:

Your ODST uniorm and body armor are similar to those o a standard UNSC

Marine except you are also equipped with a ull-head helmet that, in addition

to oering improved protection rom ballistic and energy projectiles, carries a

sophisticated, tactical heads-up display (HUD).

The HUD not only shows your current loadout o grenades, weapons, and

ammunition, it also provides real-time monitoring o your two most important

biometrics: stamina and base body ealt.

While the method o calculating these metrics is classied, your HUD makes

them easy to understand: reddening around the edges o the HUD means your

stamina is low; reduction o a narrow bar near the top o the HUD means your

base health is depleted.

Stamina recovers automatically as long as you are not taking hostile re; but

base health only improves with medical intervention via combat aid kits, or

medkits or short. Fortunately, you have been trained in the use o civilianmedkitsessential knowledge in urban terrain ar rom expeditionary medical

acilities and Navy corpsmen.

While your HUD is designed or efcient, peripheral observation, new ODST

recruits are encouraged to actively monitor their biometrics and adjust their

ghting style accordingly.

members who die respawn in a sae area, but the team loses one lie rom the

pool. Additional lives are awarded at the end o each Round and Set.

There are two exceptions to these respawning rules:

Dead players respawn for free after each Bonus Round.

Dead players respawn for free when you have no remaining lives but at leastone team member survives a Wave.

New supplies o OPTICAN medkits and UNSC weapons are provided at the

successul completion o each Round.

W, Rd, d sYour progress in Fireght is measured as you battle Waves in Sets o Rounds.

A Wave consists o one Covenant squad deployed to kill you. The number o

enemies in each Wave varies depending on squad makeup and difculty.

A Ron comprises 5 Waves o Covenant attackers. Ater each Round you have

a brie break to reestablish a deensive perimeter.

A Set comprises 3 Rounds (15 Waves o Covenant) and concludes with a Bonus

Round. Ater each Set you get a slightly longer break to resupply.

The Bons Ron is a timed killing renzy where your team tries to score as

many points as possible beore all players die or the time elapses. Remember:

the Iron skull is always activated in this round (see page 12). I your team

scores enough points, you are awarded bonus lives.

skAs each Fireght progresses, various difculty-multiplying skulls come into

play. Tough Luck, Catch, and Black Eye activate at the start o Rounds; Tilt,

Famine, and Mythic activate at the start o Sets. The longer a Fireght lasts,

the more skulls remain active simultaneously, so by the start o Round One o

Set Five, all Round and Set skulls are active. The Iron skull is only active during

Bonus Rounds.

Enlisted ratings require Experience (EXP), which you earn by doing well in

ranked and social playlists. For ofcer ratings, you must reach a Highest Skill

milestone in addition to earning the required EXP. Playing (and winning) in

ranked playlists is the only way to raise your skill level. Also, your EXP earned

in each playlist is displayed as a white rating while in that playlist. These

playlist ratings do not require any Highest Skill level, just E XP earned in

that playlist.

vIsItInG tHe tHeateR

The Teater allows you to watch, edit, rename, take screenshots rom, and

share your saved lms. Every time you play a game you can save a copy to

watch later in the Teater. Films are categorized by type (such as multiplayer

and Forge).

Once you start a saved lm, prepare to experience Halo like never beore. Youreno longer playing the game, instead youre driving the camera to watch each

encounter in any way you want (with up to three riends viewing with you).

Follow the person who saved the lm in rst person, tag along with anyone in

third-person view, or enter ying camera mode and move around reely to get

a close-up o a particularly humiliating assassinationtotal camera control

is yours.

Want the world to see your Spartan Laser triple kill, but not the grenade suicide

you suered during your victory celebration? No problem, just cue your lm to

the right moment and with a ew button presses you can record and save a new

lm clip. Use lm clips to study the strategies o your online opponents.

When viewing a lm, pressX to show or hide the Teater Control pa and>or an overview o the camera controls (or more inormation on saving,

viewing, and editing lms, visit www.bngie.net ).

In the Forge, you can tweak, create, or even destroy the objects present on any

multiplayer mapwelcome to world domination!

Although you may move and ght reely as a player in the Forge, the real work

is done in Eit Moe. Pressl up to enter Eit Moe where you can manipulate

virtually any map object, such as weapons, vehicles, map objectives, and more.Pressl up again to return to player Moe to test your changes.

rgig ahdReshaping a map can be a lot o work, so you may want to enlist the aid o other

players in the Forge. Up to eight players may join a Forge game on Xbox LIVE or

system link, and up to our players can join on a local console. Cooperate with

your riends to make the work go aster, but dont orget to throw a usion coil at

them rom time to time

Here are a ew tips to get you started:

You are assigned a set budget for adding items to each map. If you run out ofcredit, you can delete deault map objects in exchange or more credit.

Not all objects (vehicles, in particular) are available for use on all maps.
