Halton Police Services Board Shares Story #1 of Community Collaboration Project: Community Partners for Healthy Living program matches HRPS liaison offi cers to school curriculum.
Each month, the Halton Police Services Board will share a recent story of collaboration between the Halton Region Police Service (HRPS) and the local community it serves through media advisories. Press will receive a turnkey press kit including a press release, one pager, contact information, and images.
Collaboration Story #1: The Community Partners for Healthy Living program connects specially trained police offi cers to Halton students while providing curriculum support to the Halton District School Board, the Halton Catholic District School Board, the French Public School Board and the French Catholic School Board.
Elementary Staff Liaison Offi cers (ESLOs) from HRPS are available to support lessons from the Health curriculum (Grades 1-8) that involve police related topics. For example, to match the Grade 1 personal safety curriculum, offi cers visit classrooms to help students learn about calling 9-1-1 and getting to and from school safely. The Grade 8 curriculum covers vaping, violent behaviours, and cyberbullying so offi cers discuss laws around underage substance abuse, assault, and sharing others’ images online.

What is the program?
The Community Partners for Healthy Living program connects specially trained police officers to Halton students while providing curriculum support to both the Halton District School Board and the Halton Catholic District School Board.
What are ESLOs?
Elementary Staff Liaison Officers from Halton Regional Police ServiceESLOs are available to visit schools to support lessons from the Health curriculum (Grades 1-8) that involve police related topics.
Examples
Grade 1 curriculum in both school boards: students learn about making smart decisions regarding their personal safety. Police liaison officers (ESLOs) can visit classrooms to help students learn about calling 9-1-1, seeking help from a police officer, and travelling to and from school safely.
Grade 8 curriculum: students learn about violent behaviours, substance abuse/addiction and cyberbullying. ESLOs are available to talk about the legal implications of substance abuse, assault, and sharing others’ personal information and images online.
