The Bitterroot Scottish Irish Festival is a community based event with the primary mission to promote education, awareness, and pride in our local heritage and history. Nationally sanctioned competitions for Highland games, Highland dancing, and Pipe & Drum bands draw world-class competitors from far and wide. Approximately 3000 festival attendees and over 500 participants from outside the Bitterroot Valley attended the 2010 festival for these judged competitions. Representatives from Scottish and Irish clans, as well as vendors specializing in hand-crafted wares, regional music and foods offer many opportunities to share stories and fi nd out more about the rich history we all share.

The festival is held on the Daly Mansion Grounds, which serves as an ideal outdoor venue. There is something for everyone at this fun, lively family event, as it presents a unique refl ection of all who call the Bitterroot Valley “home’.

We invite you to participate in this year’s festival -- bring the entire family for a fun day of warm camaraderie and a

shared sense of kinship!

Comedies, dramas, musicals, Shakespeare in the Park, and many more performances are just a sampling of the year-round schedule put on by the Hamilton Players at the Hamilton Playhouse. Keep an eye on their schedule of events because you will not want to miss any of these wonderful productions. The Players has provided live, quality theatre for over thirty years, building a large supportive audience. This relationship has inspired many more community members to take the stage and join the Hamilton Players family. The new vision of the theater has extended to the creation of a Theater School for children ages K-12, with fall, spring, and summer programs. This has been a successful endeavor reaching a new generation of performers. www.hamiltonplayers.com

His parents gave him a camera for graduation from high school. Fourteen years later he became a full-time photographer. William (Bill) Muñoz graduated from

the University of Montana with a degree in history and now resides in Montana’s beautiful Bitterroot Valley. He has provided photographs for more than 100 books, including the works of Dorothy Patent Hinshaw. Bill appreciates the need for his photography to spark a child’s imagination. It is the ‘wonder’ of the world of nature that he feels and attempts to capture in his images. The Bitterroot is proud to have William Munoz living here, capturing the beautiful Bitterroot Valley in his photography.

It’s a great place to make your home, the Bitterroot Valley. Montana is about truly living with fishing, hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, hunting, boating and camping all just outside your front door. Rafting the Bitterroot River, hunting and camping are just a few of Bob Pauley’s favorite activities – along with finding a great home for great folks that desire to share Bob’s home land.

Finding the perfect spot for your lifestyle is important to Bob. When you are happy with your home, you will be a good neighbor and friend. Bob’s love of the valley and the simplicity of the Montana lifestyle make it easy to introduce you to the friendly community of the Bitterroot valley. Buyers, sellers, bankers, realtors and neighbors all know and trust Bob to put the cares and concerns of his clients first. Just the way you’d help your friend, that’s how Bob will treat you. After 17 years in real estate you can trust Bob Pauley. Your choice of properties is currently excellent and with interest rates at low levels, this might be the perfect time for you to consider investing in the Montana Real Estate market.

Farmers marketThe Restoration Begins with the Cupola Campaign at the Ravalli County Museum in Hamilton. The project is in full swing and we are proud of the historic restoration taking place outside as well as the soon to begin interior renovations. The Old County Courthouse designed by A. J. Gibson has been close to the heart of the downtown for over 100 years. The events that have taken place inside its hallowed halls and ante chambers have had the power to change people’s lives and make stories worth retelling. The Old Court House has been the site of countless historic events, trials, day to day activities and more recently many cultural explorations as well.

The Mission of the Museum is to preserve the cultural heritage of the Bitter Root Valley for you and future generations. As the home of the Ravalli County Museum it now has a fresh vision to present to the public. This Spring, as part of the ongoing evolution of this magnifi cent old building, you will experience the grand opening of several new exhibits, enhanced educational programming and a refurbished space that will draw you in … to history. Keep up with the progress on the museum’s website,

NExplore Between the Worlds

“Variety is the spice of life” and Karen Suennen, chef and owner of The Spice of Life Cafe & Catering, likes it that way. She wants to create a dining experience that is welcoming to everyone. The menu is diverse and uses spicy ingredients such as wasabi or chili peppers, but, Suennen states, “everything on the menu is not hot” she tries to include something for everybody. You will nd a delectable variety including a bit of Caribbean, Thai, Japanese, and Italian cuisine. There is also a children’s menu, and beer and wine are available. “We use local ingredients whenever we can,” says Suennen, who’s half acre home garden provides some of the restaurant’s herbs, vegetables and owers. Wild salmon, naturally raised beef, and vegetarian options are included. The decor is fun and funky with art from local artists on display. Folks are encouraged to come as they are, so if you are just off the river or ski hill, please stop in. The restaurant does not take reservations so no need to worry about that either.
