"This Ian who wanted a hat copied, as a friend who knitted it for him has died. He rang the Guild and Wendy took on the task. He was delighted with his new beanie."
From the President
What a fabulous Open Day we had! I have heard nothing but complimentary comments about it. Of course, success only comes as a result of the effort of
those involved and the support of our members.
Pauline Tuft is our Events coordinator. She did a fantastic job of combining the themes of History Festival, Guild Exhibition and Market Day into one cohesive event. She was also responsible for the great signage and the overall layout of the event. Congratulations, Pauline, on a job well done.
Thanks go, too, to the others involved in the organisation for the day - Jean for the Guild exhibition tables, Carol for the History table, Nicole and Charmaine for organising the traders, Lorraine for the information table and selling raffle tickets, Carolyn and Lynda for the Guild trading table, Thea and Peta at the door and Euli for her Entrelac workshop demonstration.
A big 'Thank You' to members who donated raffle prizes and especially to those who brought in their wonderful work for display. Without you there wouldn't be an exhibition. The work shown this year was of a particularly high standard, and a credit to the Guild.
Well done everyone.

Open Day Report
The Guild’s 2017 Open Day, held on Saturday 20 May at the RSL Hall.
This year's Open Day was very successful, final numbers were 104 visitors and 36 members.
As part of the annual History Festival and being the Guild's 30th anniversary, the theme was "What were you doing 30 years ago?" Lots of members submitted their interesting stories, looked after by Carol Brown. Carol brought along some of fair-isle sweaters as her story. Annette Wessling knitted a christening gown used for her 3 children. Kathryn Gunn’s Aran sweater was knitted during studying.
Peta and Thea did a good job of welcoming the visitors and directing them to all the various activities
The Guild exhibition was looked after by Jean Spence. It was a treat to see 4 of Jacqueline Wood's gorgeous dolls. All the other lovely garments and items made a very attractive display.
Carolyn Millard managed the Guild trading table with Lynda Lato in the side room. This was the first
time we used stock sheets and swing tags to monitor the takings and member's items. Also in the side room were the traders - Colagirl Collective, Kathy's Fibres, Spinning Woodie, Stranded in Oz, Wren & Ollie and Yarnarama. All with good displays of yarn and accessories. They were also very happy with the day.
Lorraine Shoolbread looked after the raffles and thanks to Nathalie, Margaret, Pat and Althea for their raffle donations. There was a good continuous stream of visitors buying their raffle tickets. 'Knit a Row and Go' was popular and information about the Guild.
Eulie Henderson continued with her Entrelac workshop and a number of visitors were interested to try themselves. Pauline Tuft
Upcoming Workshops
Knitting the Continental way - 1 July
Do you want to knit faster and more efficiently? By making the most of your hand motions with smaller, quicker movements you'll rejuvenate your knitting and approach any
project with a newfound zeal. The Continental (European) style of knitting involves less body movements, produces beautifully even stitches and is a far kinder form of knitting for arms and shoulders. For those with arthritis, it allows them to continue knitting with minimal effort and discomfort. And if you're left handed, well, get ready to fall in love.
Crochet Flowers - 5 August
With its lacy motifs and sculptural qualities, crochet is the perfect medium for adding one-of-a-kind details to any project; knit, sewn or crocheted. You will love these quick and fun crochet flowers. They make the perfect embellishment for all sorts of handmade items, especially knitted and crochet hats.
