The Birth of a Monster.

Hannibal Lecter is introduced in the 1981 novel Red Dragon by Thomas Harris.

Followed it up with the following novels:

i. Red Dragon (1981)ii.  The Silence of the Lambs (1988)iii.  Hannibal (1999)iv.  Hannibal Rising (2006)

Introduction.

Portrayed as a brilliant psychiatrist who is incarcerated after having been revealed to be a cannibalistic serial killer.

Red Dragon firmly states that Lecter does not fit any known psychological profile .

Traumatized as a child in Lithuania in 1944 when he witnessed the murder and cannibalism of his beloved younger sister, Mischa, by Lithuanian Hilfswillige.

 American Film Institute as the #1 movie villain.

 Empire magazine lists Hannibal as the 5th Greatest Movie Character of All Time.

 Hopkins' screen time is only a little more than 16 minutes he was awarded the Oscar.

The Silence of the Lambs placed seventh on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments for Lecter's infamous escape scene.

"I do wish we could chat longer, but I'm having an old friend for dinner."—Nominated for Best quote of the last century by the AFI.

Recognition.

 Demme won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 41st Berlin International Film Festival .

Golden Globe Award for Best Director. The film was nominated as best film by the (BAFTA) Awards.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter was selected as the #4 Greatest Film Character by the People Magazine.

IMDB rating 8.6 .
