Happy Birthday to our ECC Family! Welcome to the May issue of the Extended Care Chronicles my favorite issue because we celebrate several honoring days this month. First up is Nurses’ Day on May 6th and Nursing Home Week May 9th. National Nurses Week is May 6-12. May 6 is the official nurse recognition day. So take a moment on May 6th and thank our Nurses, whether they be a front- line Nurse, Nursing Administration, a MDS Nurse, a Wound Care Nurse, a Consultant Nurse- they all deserve our praise, our gratitude and our thanks for the care they provide to the residents of our consulted facilities. Nursing Home Week is May 9-13. Nursing homes were begun by St. Helena of Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey) as places where those who were alone and dying could get the end- of-life care they needed. What’s Happening at Lincolnshire

What’s Happening at Lemont

What’s Happening at Prairie Manor

What’s Happening at South SuburbanWhen employees know there’s an opportunity to advance their careers, it’s a strong incentive to work hard and

become a loyal member of the team. South Suburban considers internal candidates for management positions before considering outside candidates. Of the 18 department mangers, 10 were promoted from within. Several completed training including MDS Certification to obtain the positions they wanted. The most recent promotion was the Clinical Nurse Liaison, who became the Assistant Director of Nursing. Coincidentally, two receptionists were promoted and now work in the Medical Records Department together. The Wound Care Team consists of two nurses who started at South Suburban as charge nurses. Studies show that more time is spent at work, than at home. It’s imperative that the management team forms a cohesive bond to take the facility to higher level of success.

We are looking forward to promoting more staff from within.

On April 7, 2016, Lincolnshire Health and Rehab Center celebrated the Grand Opening of the newly designed Gift Shop, Ice Cream Parlor, and Beauty Salon. The groundbreaking event was attended by many healthcare professionals as well as other professionals throughout NW Indiana. The Chamber of Commerce provided a wonderful ribbon cutting to kick off the celebration!! Great food and drinks, great people, and great opportunities paved the way for this successful event!!! All attendees received a tour

of the facility and new construction and Lincolnshire received many praises for the overall ambiance of the building. Lincolnshire is looking forward to continuing to build successful relationships in the community and providing great care! Residents are overjoyed with the addition of these new amenities and have had nothing but good things to say. I would like to personally thank all of the Lincolnshire staff and Extended Care for going above and beyond to make this event wonderful! Thank you all!!

On April 16, 2003 Mrs. Bernie Rhein began her employment with Prairie Manor Nursing and Rehab. Thirteen years later, almost to the day of her anniversary date, our dedicated and faithful employee is off to enjoy her life in retirement. For 50 years Bernie has been a nurse, providing excellent care and compassion to every patient she met through her career along the way. Here at Prairie Manor we want to wish Bernie the very happiest retirement and may she enjoy each and every single day. We are truly going to miss you Bernie, we love you, enjoy!

On St. Patrick’s Day the staff had a friendly competition on who could show the most holiday spirit!! Residents and staff voted for the best dressed. The winners were Ted, P.M. CNA, and Anastasia, housekeeper.

Lemont Center staff showed their team spirit for The Cubs and The White Sox Home Opener games on April 8th and 11th. The staff enjoyed a joint party with the residents complete with hot dogs, popcorn, and even sang the 7th inning stretch.
