Whispers of the Heart Workshop & Art Show

Workshop: Sat, June 8: Please join us for a half day workshop on Sat, June 8, 9am-1:30pm., as we explore the ancient Christian practice of lectio and visio divina. Lectio divina, Latin for “holy or divine reading” involves the listening to and relating of scripture to this moment in our experience. Visio divina, Latin for “sacred seeing or praying with art,” involves building awareness of God as experienced through various art forms such as sculpture and painting. Both practices build our awareness of how God speaks to us. Refreshments will be served including a light lunch. Signup sheets are available in the Gathering room. Registration deadline is June 2. Pastor Maggie Sykes and Evelyn West will facilitate this retreat. Photography & Art Show: Sun, June 9: Get your cameras ready and your eyes wide open as you prepare to share through photography or original art “Where do you see God?” Please join FUMC in this unique opportunity to share your vision of God in the world through photography (8 X 10 matted or framed) or original art work (no larger than 18 X 20 matted or framed) with an art show at FUMC on June 9 & 16 inclusive. A reception will be held on June 9 between services and after worship. Entry deadline is May 31st.

Vision Statement: The Vision of Troy First United Methodist Church is to make disciples and spread the Good News by living, obeying and applying the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Mission Statement: The Mission of Troy First United Methodist Church is to INVITE - EQUIP - ENGAGE.

GOALS: Goal #1: Implement a Small Group Program with training by Pastor Dave and the staff, to include a high-level plan to be presented at the next Church Council meeting on May 20, 2013. Today’s Anthem: “I Have Felt the Hand of God” Text: Pamela Martin Music: Craig Courtney

I have felt the hand of God in your hand.

Holding me, you gave me strength to stand.

When I was all alone, you came and met my need.

And when I lost my way, your hand was there to

lead.

Through your touch, God’s hand reached out to me.

I have felt the hand of God in your hand.

I have heard the voice of God in your voice.

Singing praise, you taught me to rejoice.

Your voice of comfort caused my grief to end.

And when my faith was gone, you called me home

again.

When you spoke, God’s voice called out to me.

I have heard the voice of God in your voice.

I have seen the face of God in your face.

Giving all, you shared with me God’s grace.

And you were faithful to guide me as I grew.

I saw your love for God and I saw God in you.

When you smiled, God’s love surrounded me.

I have seen the face of God,

I have heard the voice of God,

I have felt the hand of God through you.

The Altar Flowers are presented by Bob Wise, in loving memory of his mother, Thelma Wise.
