HAPPY EASTER!
Well, St. Barnabas Sewers, we have
been given a nickname by the Diocese:
“Sewing Saints”. See the letter of
thanks for the items we delivered. So,
in the future we will use that name for
our group.
We have been given a wealth of fabric,
not only from others in the parish, but
also from a neighbor of mine, yards
and yards of it. So I am hoping anyone
who wants to sew any of our mission
items will connect with me so I can
spread this wealth out.
Remember, we’re not setting guilt—
ridden deadlines; we’re happy to have
volunteers sew as they can until we
have enough items to deliver to the diocese.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, Pat Sadd 830-990-4980.
THE SEWING SAINTS AKA THE ST. BARNABAS WORLD MISSION GROUP
On the second Sunday of every month beginning in May (May 14th), join us following the
11 a.m. service (approximately 12:30 p.m.) for a Question and Answer session about the
Episcopal Church. There will be a light lunch of soup and salad served. This class is in-
tended for newcomers and all who want to know more about the Episcopal Church.
ALL ARE WELCOME!
An exciting underground adventure awaits the VBS kids
as they discover the light that shines for us to find our way in the world.
VBS participants will experience Sing and Play Rock, Spelunker Sports,
Imagination Station, KidVid Cinema and more!
The children will also meet some special Bible Memory Buddies during the week.
Volunteers are needed
Crew Leaders – working with small groups of kids
Station Leaders – leading groups in activities
Snack Patrol – preparing and serving daily snacks
Also, we need some behind the scenes help:
Creative minds to transform the Parish Hall into a cave-like
atmosphere
Set up and Clean Up crews
If you are eager and willing to serve in this important children’s
ministry, please contact Karen Young at 830-285-1012.

sale Saturday, May 6. The sale begins at 8:00 a.m. in the St. Barnabas parking lot.
On sale will be items collected by Scouts in the Troop as well as drinks and popcorn.
All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Troop’s scholar-
ship fund. Scoutmaster Gayne C. Young explains, “Our
scholarship fund helps Scouts purchase uniforms, gear,
and attend outings. Most of the money collected at this
event will go toward sending Scouts to Summer Camp at
Buffalo Trails Scout Ranch in June and to hike Guadalupe
Peak in July.”
Please contact Scoutmaster Young at 830-285-1011 or at [email protected] if you
would like to donate items for the sale or to make a cash donation to help fund the Troop’s

From the Senior Warden Wow! What a Lenten season we have had at St. Barnabas—topped off with a powerful and
busy Holy Week full of sorrow, reflection and joy. It is hard to put into words the meaning and
impact of Lent and the emotional rollercoaster it brings to us each year. I think it is important
after you go through an emotional experience or personal battle of some sort, to take some
time to reflect and learn from your experience. Having met the day after Easter, this is exactly
what our Vestry tried to do in this month’s meeting. Given the highs and lows of our parish’s
Holy Week, our thoughts and conversations tended to center on our young parishioners.
Julie Alvarez and Fr. Bur kicked off our open discussion and vision time by sharing their first
discussions in creating an official youth program committee. While we have had some very
strong, dedicated and talented youth program volunteers in years past, to date, our parish
has not had a committee focused on youth at all. Our discussion yielded several key points.
One, our parish youth program is in need of an overhaul and some rejuvenation. Two, we all
agree that our parish needs to focus time and effort on our young parishioners. Three, with
parent and parish member support, we can rejuvenate our youth program to both serve our
regular attendance children/teens as well as expand our impact to youngsters outside our
normal congregation such as youth’s friends and Mom’s Morning Off kids.
This is a time for brainstorming. Our Youth Program Committee has met with youth directors
from other Fredericksburg congregations to get ideas from their experiences. Because get-
ting parent buy-in and commitment is crucial, they are planning a roundtable discussion with
our parish parents. With the summer break coming, now is a great time to plan for next year
and we are busy doing that. If you would like to join the Youth Program Committee or you are
interested in giving some input to the committee, please contact the church office. We want
to know how our congregation and our parents think the youth program from toddlers to
teens should look both in the near and distant future.
In regular business, Fr. Jeff will be leaving on his sabbatical adventure beginning in early May.
A big thanks to all of you who have given a gift towards his sabbatical expenses and helping
make this special program possible. This Sabbath could not come at a better time for Fr. Jeff,
and we look forward to hearing about his time of reflection, rest and rejuvenation. Fr. Bur will
be guiding us in Jeff’s absence, and we are excited to hear his messages and perspective
over the summer. Clerical Sabbaticals are also a great time to get a little more involved in the
running of our church. If you are interested in doing something a little extra, please contact
the church office. As normal, if you have any needs or questions do not hesitate to contact
Rachel, Carol or Steve. Also this month, we are glad to hear that Bill Snyder has agreed to
serve as temporary Jr. Warden. We will be spending some time getting him up to speed and
thank him greatly for his service.

In the Garden
I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses,
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear
the Son of God discloses.
And He walks with me,
and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
This much-loved gospel hymn was written by C. Austin Miles and first published
in 1912. It was popularized in the Billy Sunday Evangelical campaigns of the
early 20th century.
