Facelift & Improvements for the Center? In October of 2014, the board members of SGaAC began a discussion of what to do with the public garden spaces surrounding the building and some deferred maintenance issues including landscaping and the building itself that we feel needs to be addressed. Within that discussion, since this is an expensive proposition, was how we might pay for this much needed facelift of the grounds and building improvements. At that same meeting, Lisa Schmidt, one of the organizers of Friends of East Sacramento*, came to share with us a proposal she had made to the City of Sacramento, to raise $10,000 to plant a dozen trees in the dead lawn area between the Center and 34th street. Her organization would raise the money for the trees and the City would plant and irrigate them. She did ask us if we would like to participate (adopt a tree) in this project, but before we could come to an agreement on it, amazingly, she’d raised enough money for the City to move forward and plant two Oaks and nine lovely Chinese Pistashe. While grateful for these new trees, some of the ideas we had talked about concerning that area, IE a Gazebo, a sculpture garden or a demonstration garden, are still viable ideas and I would like to see them further explored. I would also like to ask Lisa to share her fundraising ideas and strate-gies in the hopes of applying them to the Center.

If you would like to have your voice heard on these topics, if you have fundraising or other ideas, you can par-ticipate by coming to the next board meeting, Monday February 2nd at 7:00 PM.

*“Friends of East Sacramento” is the organizing and fundraising arm of the McKinley Park (Clunie) Center.

Venture Crew #161, a co-ed division of Boy Scouts of America, is available to assist groups and Clubs with event set-up, tear down, distributing flyers and other miscellaneous tasks. We volunteer our time but dona-tions to the Crew help with the cost of activities and are always appreciated. If you have a need and are interested in our help please contact our Advisor, Eric Wemmer, at # 916-612-7241, or Assistant Advisor, Sandi Wemmer, # 916-834-3985. Thank you.

For those of you who may not recognize Eric Wem-mer’s name, he is our “ever ready to help” assistant who handles many of the jobs for the spring & fall sales. I highly recommend him & his newly created “Venture Crew” for any help your club might need.

Don’t forget to book Eric & his Venture Crew early!
