Happy New Year!
We hope that your family had a safe
and enjoyable holiday season. It's so nice
to see everyone back.
A new year signals a fresh start, a time
for looking ahead and setting new goals.
The students and staff at Chris Hadfield
P.S. are all involved in setting a goal for
the upcoming term. The goal will be
recorded on a large star, decorated, cut
out and displayed in the classroom. This
will serve as a reminder and encourage
students to strive to do their very best to
achieve their goal.
Best Wishes for 2015!
Sincerely,

Winter is Here!
As we move into the colder weather, we remind you that the
children should be dressing appropriately for the weather. Snow and our great Canadian winter weather is here! It is important that you check the weather forecast and ensure that your child(ren) are dressed properly (warm winter jacket, gloves, hat, snow pants and insulated boots) so that they can enjoy the wintry conditions during outdoor play and our 2 nutrition breaks. All Peel District Schools follow cold weather guidelines which were developed by the Region of Peel to determine when students are to remain inside instead of going outside to play. We will also monitor the weather conditions at the school.
CHILDREN'S SAFETY FIRST! Parents, please help us to keep your children safe by following our school safety rules and discussing them with your children. Parents who use the Kiss ‘N’ Ride in
the mornings, please do not arrive until 8:45 a.m. as there is no teacher supervision until that time.
It's great to see so many families walk
to and from school each day. Please remember to stay on the school
sidewalks and only cross at the designated crosswalks when entering and leaving school property Remember that the long driveway
into the school is for buses only Parents are asked to park in the
parking lot at the front of the school Please be aware of students and families at all times when driving on school property. Thank you

donated canned food, dried goods and

mittens being picked up by the Salvation
Army for delivery to families in need
during this holiday season.
Your kindness and generosity is very much
appreciated!

As you know, the Chris Hadfield P.S.
community is working together to raise
funds to help support Kikima, a small
village in East Africa. The initiative is
called the Creation of Hope Project. All
funds raised through our popcorn sales
as well as kind donations from parents,
will go directly to the village.
Thank you very much for supporting
this terrific learning opportunity for
your children.
LIBRARY NEWS
FOREST OF READING
It is time for us to launch The Forest of Reading program at Chris Hadfield P.S.
There are 2 divisions of this program that will involve our students. The first
division is Blue Spruce and is for students in Kindergarten to Grade 2. The second
division is Silver Birch and is for students in Grades 3 & 4. We will start both
programs in early February. The program highlights a selection of recently published
Canadian children's books, both fiction and non-fiction. Those students who
participate are asked to commit to reading a minimum of 5 books in the selected
division in order to be eligible to vote. At the end of April, children will participate
in an Ontario wide election as they vote for their favourite book. Happy reading!
It's time to register children born in 2011 for kindergarten Register at Chris Hadfield P.S. on Feb. 2, 3, 4 & 5 We inspire success, confidence and hope in each student…and it all starts in kindergarten! If your child was born in 2011, he or she can start kindergarten in September 2014. Registra-tion will be held at our school from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 2, 3, 4 and 5 and from 5 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 5 only. What you will need to bring to registration Proof of child's age
Canadian birth certificate Canadian passport citizenship card/certificate Permanent Resident Card confirmation of permanent residence work permit refugee permit
Proof of address Ontario driver's license utility bill bank statement/client slip (directly from financial institution) credit card statement federal government forms (e.g. Social Insurance Number, Service Canada docu-
ments) purchase agreement
Proof of custody – children must live with their parent(s) unless provided documentation supports an alternate living arrangement Proof of immunization – proof that your child has been immunized/vaccinated Extended-day program for kindergarten students Families have the option of enrolling their child in before and after-school programs devel-oped by the Ministry of Education to complement the full-day kindergarten program. These programs are run by qualified, experienced staff from our childcare partners. At registration, we will ask families to tell us whether they are interested in the extended-day programs. The programs can only run if there is enough interest among families. Important information about immunization In order to attend school in Ontario, your child must have an up-to-date immunization re-cord. When you register your child for school, you will provide copy of your child's immuni-zation record and the school will send it to Peel Health. After registration, keeping your child's records up to date is your responsibility. Peel Health reviews immunization records regularly. Students who are not completely immunized and do not have a valid exemption may not be allowed to attend school.
