THE BLESSING WE RECEIVE The blessing we experience in Christ Jesus is proclaimed in Numbers as the special blessing for the people of Israel. They and we are to be blessed by the invocation of God’s loving kindness, the shining glory of God’s face turned toward us in love, not away from us in anger. We are blessed by God’s own peace! Our wish and our hope are fulfilled in this blessing, which is made visible in the coming of Jesus. EPIPHANY CONCERT Father Greg Daigle will perform his annual Epiphany Concert on Sunday, January 8, 2017, at 4:00 pm at St. John the Evangelist Church in Plaquemine. The concert will feature songs of the Christmas season. Father Greg will be accompanied by the Bill Grimes Orchestra. Tickets are $25 each and are on sale at the St. John Church and St. John School offices and may be purchased at the door. All proceeds benefit music programs at St. John School.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION A Wedding Anniversary Mass & Celebration will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 3:00pm at Our Lady of Mercy Church honoring couples who will be celebrating their 25th & 50th and 65th or greater wedding anniversary during 2017. Bishop Robert Muench will be the celebrant. The families of the honored couples are also invited to attend. A reception will be held afterward in the OLOM Parish Activity Center. Please call the church office to register. All information must be received before February 3rd in order for certificates to be printed.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION “Octave” comes from the Latin word for “eight,” and since eight is one step beyond seven, the number of days in a week, it has long been seen as a symbol of perfection, completion, and new beginnings. Early Christians called Sunday the “eighth day,” since it was the day after the Sabbath and a day of resurrected life, the Lord’s Day. By the seventh century, people regarded the eight days after Easter Sunday as one great day, an octave, one glorious feast when people were forbidden to fast or kneel. In the seventh century, Pentecost acquired an Octave, too. Christmas didn’t claim the honor of a continuous feast, but it did get an Octave Day. January 1 is the oldest Marian feast, the Octave of Christmas. It was originally a feast of the motherhood of Mary, although for centuries until 1969 it was called the Feast of the Circumcision. HOSPITAL INFORMATION Please know that if you are admitted into either Our Lady of the Lake Hospital or the Baton Rouge General hospital and are in immediate need a priest, both hospitals have one on staff. They are available 24 hours a day. Please make your request known to one of the nursing staff and they will assist you.

If you or a loved one is admitted into the hospital, especially if you have entered the hospital by way of the emergency room, please contact the Church Office at 383-1838 to let us know. Not all hospitals contact us and the emergency room does not take the necessary information. This may be the only way we are aware of a hospital stay.

ATTENTION ALL PARISHIONERS If an adult “child” is still living at home over the age of 22, they should be registered independently from their parents. They should take on the responsibility of their own active faith life. As adult Catholics they should be involved in the ministry of “Stewardship: A Way of Life”, by practicing sharing their time, talent or treasure with Holy Family Parish. Each adult child, 23 years of age or older, is no longer listed as a registered parishioner under their parents information. They are now classified as “inactive” status and are no longer be “registered” parishioners of Holy Family Parish. If you have an adult child still living at home who is mentally or physically disabled and needs to remain as a dependent, we do understand. Please notify the church office at 383-1838. Any young adult living in this parish should contact the church office to officially register as a parishioner of Holy Family Church.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is offered here to anyone who is facing surgery of any kind or serious illness. It is offered either at daily Mass or privately. To receive this very comforting sacrament, please contact the Church Office.
