Scientia Academy Newsletter January 2019

Dear Parents & Carers

Happy New Year

On behalf of all of the staff at Scientia may I welcome you back to school

and wish you a Happy New Year. We hope that you enjoyed the Christmas

festivities but that you also managed to have a restful break.

It is the time of year for resolutions, aims and wishes and, as is tradition, I

would like to share mine for school with you all:

Five Wishes for the New Year!

1. All children come to school with a positive attitude for each new day, ready to learn

and try their best in all that they do.

2. All children remain healthy and well and can aim for 100% attendance this term.

3. All children come to school looking smart in, labelled, uniform which includes black

shoes or boots and not trainers.

4. All children, adults and visitors remember that we treat each other with respect and

are polite and courteous towards each other at all times.

5. That parents read my newsletter every month to make sure that they are aware of up-

coming events.

If everyone follows my 5 golden wishes then I am certain that 2019 will be a fantastic

year for us all at Scientia Academy!

Headteacher

Following Mr Bhoola’s promotion to Deputy Regional Director in March, Mrs Hands has been acting in the role of Interim Headteacher whilst the Governors seek to appoint a substantive leader for the school.

Unfortunately, following two rounds of recruitment, the Governors have not yet been able to appoint the right candidate.

To ensure stability for the school, we are pleased to inform you that, for the remainder of this academic year, Mr Bhoola will be stepping into the role of Executive Headteacher for two days a week, and Mrs Hands will be continuing as Head of School.

We are sure that you will agree that this further strengthens the leadership team for the school but if you have any questions or concerns please Mr Bhoola or Mrs Hands.

Reception—Aristotle

From Wednesday 22nd January, Miss Harrison will be taking a leave of absence following a medical procedure. We are pleased to welcome back to the Aristotle team Mrs Vicky Smith who will be working in Aristotle with Miss Kinnear and Mrs Fisher whilst Miss Harrison is absent. Miss Harrison will be returning in April 2019.

Welcome We are pleased to inform you of the following recent appointments: Mrs Sam Burrows, Midday Supervisor—SEND needs Ms Danielle Medina, 1-1 Support Assistant

Autumn Term 2018

If like me you had a new book (or two!) for Christmas, you will know the joy that comes from getting cosy with a book and heading off into adventures that only a new story can take you.

This year, we have introduced a new range of texts that children will be sharing in school. We hope your child will want to talk about the books they’re reading and the new authors they’re discovering.

Please see you child’s class teacher if you are interested in how to further support your child with reading at home.

This half term your child will be reading:

Reading at Scientia

and many more ….

Year 3

Year 4

Year 6

Following the amendment to school hours in December, due to local traffic concerns, can I please remind you that the school day has reverted to normal opening hours.

8.40am: Gates open

8.50am: Registration

3.10pm: Reception finishes

3.20pm: KS1 and KS2 finishes

On Thursday 14th February we will be holding our Valentines

Disco in school. Children are invited to come to school wearing

red for a donation of £1.

Additional details will follow soon.

Thank you for your responses to communication about Curriculum visits we were hoping to book this year. Please note, that because interest was limited, we will not be going ahead this academic year but will instead seek alternative options. Further communication will follow from Mrs Roberts-Doyle.
