Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casinohas always had some of the best, andmost popular, memorabilia, from pinsand casino chips to tokens, silverstrikes, room keys, slot cards and onand on. The Hard Rock also displaysone of the greatest rock n’ roll memo-rabilia collection from the world’sgreatest rock music and movie leg-ends. Some of these items are Elvis’gold lame jacket, concert outfits,leather jackets, gold and platinumrecords, guitars from Nirvana, PearlJam, ZZ Top, Van Halen, BruceSpringsteen, Aerosmith and manymore.

Peter Morton opened the HardRock Hotel and Casino on March 10,1995 next to the existing Hard RockCafe. The introduction of the HardRock Hotel and Casino quicklychanged the way locals and visitorsviewed Las Vegas, giving the city anewfound youth. The hotel quicklybecame the hottest and most sought-after destination in Vegas.

Peter Morton is a member ofChicago’s preeminent family ofrestaurateurs. He knew at a young agethat he wanted to continue the familytradition. After graduating from theUniversity of Denver in 1969, hemoved to London where shortly afterhis arrival he felt the need for a trueAmerican-style hamburger “joint”.With money borrowed from his fami-ly and friends, he opened the GreatAmerican Disaster.

A year later, in 1971, he addedrock music to the equation andopened the first HardRock Cafe, whichrestaurant experts agreepioneered the moderntheme restaurant era.Located in London’sMayfair district, theHard Rock Cafe mixedthe energy and excite-ment of rock n’ rollwith great Americanfood. Returning to LosAngeles in 1979, he

opened Mortons, which catered to anupscale clientele. In 1994 Mortonswas redesigned and relocated acrossthe street from the original site.

In 1982, with backing fromHollywood supporters, Peter Mortonopened the first Hard Rock Cafe inthe U.S. He soon established HardRock Cafes worldwide. The RankOrganisation, Pfc bought the rightsfor roughly half of the Hard RockCafes and in June 1996, Peter Mortonsold the remaining rights to Rank.

The Hard Road chips were made by aHollywood prop house for use in the movie,TOMCATS (2001).The prop house bought abunch of real chips from the cage as well tobe used in the shot at the craps table. The“fake” chips were used to supplement the realchips to make the shot look better. Front andback of the $5 chip are shown.

The new hot stamp roulette chips were put in play in 2004. They are made in the following colors: grey, blue, salmon, purple, green, red,and beige.

The roulette chips issued from 1995 through2000 were made in the following colors:blue, green, orange, peach, pink, purple andyellow.

There has always been a controversywhether these two chips are from theHard Rock. There is a possibility theywere salesman samples for roulettechips but it has not been confirmed.
