Importance of Grades● You will receive progress report grades, quarter grades, and semester grades;
Grades: A, B, C, D, or F
● Students will be assigned a citizenship grade:○ O= Outstanding○ S= Satisfactory○ U= Unsatisfactory
● Progress report grades= a key indicator as to how the student has been doing and being aware that there is still time for improvement
● Quarter grades- students have earned an official grade and depending on the teacher the grade will continue for next quarter or teachers will start fresh with grades
● Semester grades- teachers either combine the quarter grades or will grade based on their overall performance

Why Middle School MattersThe relationship between middle school performance and high school course opportunities leads to college and career readiness
8th Grade Promotion Requirements• Academic: Students must pass ALL 8th Grade classes
– No semester “F’s”• (Students will be provided an opportunity to remediate failed courses that were earned during the 1st
semester only)
• Citizenship: Students must demonstrate satisfactory Citizenship– No more than 1 “U” on the 3rd quarter report card – No more than 1 “U” on the 4th quarter report card– No serious violations of the behavior code during the 4th quarter that result in a single 5-day suspension or two
separate suspensions.
• Indebtedness: ALL bills are paid– No outstanding debts for lost or damaged books, fundraisers, etc.
• Attendance: – 85% attendance required (8th grade year only)

Parent Tips● If you have questions or concerns do not hesitate to call or email the school staff. Know the name of your
child’s teachers and school counselor.
● Get familiar with teachers class syllabus
● Check schools website for school updates
● Check your student’s agenda EVERY DAY
● Be sure to limit after school recreational activities, provide a quiet study area and expect to see your child working regularly on homework and projects.
● Set rules about TV, computer and cell phone use.
● Appropriate school uniform EVERY DAY
● Make sure the main office has current contact information
