WearGuard™ ColorsWhat Is WearGuard™?Our advanced WearGuard™ technology is manufactured into the wear layer of pavers to increase the surface strength and provide a tighter finish to the paver.

WearGuard™ increases color intensity and eliminates “polishing” of the paver surface. Polishing is a wearing process that occurs over time and reveals the larger aggregates in the paving stone, thus reducing color saturation on the surface.

Made of acrylic and urethane, Techni-Seal® EV Protector for pavers and slabs is a micro-porous transparent emulsion that is specially designed to protect pavers and slabs made of concrete or natural stone. Its characteristic is to protect while preserving the natural look of pavers. It reduces oil and dirt penetration, and makes cleaning easier. Easy to apply, it provides maximum effectiveness and durability. It will not peel or discolor. It resists the elements (freeze-thaw cycles, sun, rain, etc.), as well as calcium and salt. Water-based, EV Protector does not give off unpleasant fumes. Containing very little solvent, it is environmentally friendly.

1. Choose Paver

Determine the area to be paved and how much material will be needed. Choose paver shape and pattern. Estimate quantity for paved area.

2. Excavate

Have utilities marked and excavate area to be paved. The heavier the surface load, the deeper the base excavation. Be sure you have plans for relocating the soil and sod. Compact exposed base area.

3. Prepare Base

Install geotextile and base aggregates. Turn cloth up at sides of base. Place aggregates over cloth to required depth and compact to 95% solid. Set posts and stringlines for final base grades and finished paver elevations.

4. Set Elevation

Install C-33 concrete bedding sand and screed smooth for setting pavers to finished elevation. Allow 1/4" height for paver settling during placement.

5. Place Pavers

Place pavers on screeded sand setting bed. Use string lines to keep pattern straight. Set hand-tight joints. Cut pavers in areas as needed to complete pattern.

6. Set Edging

Set plastic edging tight against all exposed paver edges and spike firmly every 24" for walkways and 12" for driveways and curves. Edging works best if set on aggregate base after trimming sand setting bed flush with outside edge of pavers.

7. Sweep Joints

Sweep dry C-33 concrete sand or other selected joint material into all joints and compact to complete interlock process. Refill to desired level after early weathering. Sweep up, clean up and enjoy your new paver installation.

For ease of installation, the Circle Stone™ kit contains just five different shapes.


Tools RequiredYou will need: shovel, tape measure, carpenter’s

level, stakes, string line, safety glasses, gloves,

pencil, square, hand or machine compactor, ham-

mer and chisel. You may also need a wheelbarrow

and a circular saw with a masonry blade. Other

supplies needed are 3/4" minus aggregate with

fines for the base of the wall and 3/4" free-drain-

ing aggregate without fines for the wall backfill.

You may also want to use sand as noted in the

installation instructions.

For larger installations of Diamond®, Highland

Stone® and Diamond Pro® products, you will also

need a skid loader and 4" flexible drain tile (poly-

propylene pipe).

Partial blocks may be re-

quired to maintain a running

bond. For partial blocks, use

a hammer and chisel on the

score line and use the ham-

mer to pound the chisel until the block splits. If the

block does not split easily, you may need to use a

circular saw with a masonry blade. Always wear

eye protection when splitting or cutting blocks

and read the instructions for power tools before

operating.

Preparing & Laying The Wall1. Stake out the wall using a string line for straight

sections and a garden hose for curved areas.

Following this line, dig a level trench about 24"

wide. For walls less than 4' high, make the trench

deep enough to bury the first full course of block,

plus the 6" compactible base. For walls over 4'

high, consult a qualified engineer for design information.

2. Firmly compact the bottom of the trench, then

place and compact the 6"of 3/4" aggregate

with fines in the bottom of the trench. Quick tip:

Spread a thin layer of sand over the compacted

base. This will make it easier to level your first

course of block.

3. Using a hammer and chisel, remove the rear lip

of each unit to be used in the base course of the

wall. Place these blocks side by side on the com-

pacted base and level the blocks in both directions

using the carpenter’s level. For all Diamond Pro®

units in the wall, fill each hollow core with the

3/4" aggregate without fines. For the Anchor™ Highland Stone® System,

we recommend using all 18" wide units for the base course. Place the

second course by setting units in a staggered relationship to the course

below (running bond), pulling each unit forward until the rear lip is se-

curely against the units below.

4. After placing the second course, place the drain tile

behind the first course of the block to allow water

to drain from the backfill zone. Outlet the drain

tile from the backfill to each low point of every 50'

of wall length and around the ends of the wall.

Backfill 12" behind the wall with the 3/4" ag-

gregate without fines. Compact the backfill in 6" layers and fill all voids.

Organic or clay type soil is not recommended for backfill material.

5. Fill any space behind the backfill aggregate with

soil and compact every 12". Continue placing ad-

ditional courses to the desired wall height. Backfill

each course as it is installed with 3/4" aggregate

without fines. Place native soil on top of the ag-

gregate and compact it behind the wall. Do not

compact directly on top of the units.
