Q: How to know hardware version? A: Open reader back, and see the paster on the CPU. Installation material Q: Installation cable? A: You could use the following cable in RS-485 communication. 2-cond unshielded 22 AWG, plus a separate 4-cond, shielded 22-24 AWG cable Q: What care should we take in noisy environment for good communication over RS 485? A:

(1) Away from power cable. (2) Single end grounding. (3) Snake net is screwed on the controller.

Q: Why does the distance between reader and card be very short? A: Normally, AR-721H will read a Card / Key Tag at up to 15 cm. However, when AR-721H or

optional auxiliary reader is mounted directly on a metal surface, the reading distance decreases slightly. To reduce this effect, install wood or plastic between the mounting surface and mounting plate, this will restore most of the reading distance.

Q: How many power do reader use? Does reader and lock need to be separated? A: The AR-721H does not supply power to operate electric strike or magnetic locks – a separate

supply is required. Refer to strike/magnetic lock manufactures instructions. If common power supply is used for both the AR-721H and electronic door lock, be sure to install the diode which is provided with the AR-721H.

Alternatively, you can use any good 9-18 VDC supply that provides at least 150mA. DC power should be clean and filtered with no more than 1 VAC ripple (Peak to Peak). Do not run AC power in the same cable with DC power to the AR-721H. While it is always preferable to use a separate power supply for the AR-721H and strike.

Q: 721H, 721U and EM lock use together with 2A power, Is it enough? A: Enough, but separate power will be good solution.

Card QA Q: What is Card ID? How about relation between Wiegand format and ABA format? A: Please see the card ID (Wiegand 34 bit) (EM4001 compatible) as follows: Every card is printed two format in AR-2561RL, but they mean same, for example, 1 meter = 100 centimeter (1) Wiegand format Sitecode: There is a 10-digit number on each card, the left-most 5 digits Sitecode. Cardcode: There is a 10-digit number on each card, the right-most 5 digits Cardcode. (2) ABA format 10-digit Formula: Sitecode * 65536 + Cardcode = ABA format (12 * 65536) + 62363 = 848795 Because ABA format must be shown 10-digit, it just 6-digit after calculated, it need to be add 4-digit

zero to become 0000848795.

Distance QA Q: Is there any cable length limitation on connection between different components of the

system. A: I. Distance between PC and networking controller Max. 300 meter RS-485 can operated up to 1.2 Km (theory value), We suggest that the cable distance of the trunk is 300 m and cable distance of the branch is 3 m. If the distance overtakes 300m, you could need a repeater to strengthen message or use Ethernet. II. Distance between stand-alone controller (AR-721H4, AR-727H) or single-door networking

controller (AR-829E) and its external wiegand reader, not long range wiegand reader A. Min. 0.5 meter

1. Since the reading range of AR-721H4 (AR-727H, AR-829E) is about 20 centimeter, and its external wiegand reader is about 20 centimeter.

2. We suggest the min. distance to be at least 50 centimeter to prevent from noise. 3. Even though controller could integrate with 5 pcs wiegand reader.

(e.g. AR-721K, AR-661U, AR-721U), we always strongly suggest our customer connect 829E with only one wiegand reader.

B. Max. 30 – 50 meter C. Depends on locale condition.

III. Distance between stand-alone controller (AR-721H4, AR-727H) and its external long reading range wiegand reader AR-661U A. Min. 1 meter

1. Since the reading range of AR-721H4 (AR-727H, AR-829E) is about 20 centimeter, and its external long reading range wiegand reader is about 60 centimeter.

2. We suggest the min. distance to be at least 100 centimeter to prevent from noise. B. Max. 30 – 50 meter C. Depends on locale condition.

Reader & Controller QA Q: Two AR-661 in parallel. He found the reader will product one time code error

per 10 time reading. E.g., card number is 123.00567, the error will be 009.00567 or 254.00567. what ever, just first 3 number is wrong, other is right. However, if my client who use the same card read again, OK.. what is the problem ? Actually, I ask my client to connect Master output to slave RF already. How about the error if this cable no connect ? A: Good communication between AR-721H and AR-661U depend on locate circumstances (far away metal, high-voltage power supply and so on) Please check AR-721H PCB board version. Then, follow up below solution to solve card read error question. 1. PCB board V2 version ----- There is George rectification. You just connect ground in AR-721H4 U6 position to ground of AR-661U.

2. PCB board V1 version ----- There is no George rectification. You can connect one pcs AR-WGREP ( WG repeater) near at 721H4 side.

Q: If I connect two AR-661 on car park, we need connect both Ground and master output to slave RF as shown on your picture. However, the distance between the reader and controller is far away and we need to connect one 721H4. Question 1: In this case, I need to connect both Ground and master output to slave RF as usual ? Question 2: need I connect anything between 721H4 ? A: 1. When two pcs AR-661U power are seperated, you need to connect both Ground together. 2. When the distance between 2 pcs AR-661U is less than 6 meter (suggeston value),

we can use the master output to slave RF as show on the picture to solve in order to avoid interface with each other to result in reading distance decrease.

3. When the distance is over 30 meter between AR-661U and AR-716EV2. You can connect AR-716EV2 and WG reader through AR-721H4 (RS-485 to WG). The distance will be 300 meter between AR-716EV2 and AR-721H4. Q: Device: 2 sets of AR-721H, 2 sets of AR-721U and AR-716EV2

Requirement: Time and Attendance and Anti-pass-back 721H4 and 721U for anti-pass-back 721H4 and 721U for anti-pass-back Door 1 Door 2 Out Door In Door In door Out Door Method: 1. Door1-721U connects to WG port 1 of 716EV2 for in-door application. 2. Door2-721U connects to WG port 2 of 716EV2 for out-door application. Limitation: 1. The distance between AR-716EV2 and 721U must less than 15 meters. 2. User can access from Door-1 721U and Door-2 721H4 and can exit from Door-1 721H4 and

Door-2 721U. Therefore, I suggest that you use four sets of 721H4 and two sets of 721U. Then, you need to hide two sets of 721H4 that connect to 721U.

Q: Can’t Soyal reader accept the Proxcard II Card? A: Soyal reader cannot accept the Proxcard II Card. But our controller and reader can accept WG 26 or 34 bit reader ex. HID reader and card. They both cannot read HID card directly whatever soyal controller or soyal reader. must through HID reader. Our suggestion as follows: Usually, our customer still uses HID reader and HID reader in exiting system, therefore, using soyal reader, controller and software behind system Because soyal RS-485 reader supports transferring WG interface to RS-485 interface function. Maybe you can use AR-716EV2 ,AR-721H and AR-727H instead of exiting controller and connect to HID reader. Then, you can start to use soyal products in new device requirement. Gradually, you weed out HID reader and HID card. Finally, let end user use all soyal products. Note that above-mentioned information needs to use soyal software. Q: I am looking for wiegand 26 bit controller not RS 485 or any other format? A: Actually, whatever AR-716EV2 or AR-716Ei, they just have two wiegand port (WG26, 34 and 37), it means you can directly connect two WG reader to controller. The distance is about 30 meter between controller and WG reader. Note: when you meet the following situations, we suggest that you can connect AR-716EV2 and WG reader through AR-721H4 (RS-485 to WG). The distance will be 300 meter between AR-716EV2 and AR-721H4. And it means that AR-716EV2 can connect to 18 WG reader. (1) If you need more channel to connect to WG reader. Or (2) The distance is over 30 meter.

Q: Can AR-701 software support AR-721H without AR-7xxE/AR-821E controller? A: No, it must need AR-7xxE and AR-801CM to connect to PC to use 701 Client and 701 Server

software. Q: What is difference between AR-721H4 and AR-721H8? A: AR-721H4's access mode has three kinds (1) Card only (command 19 default) User can access the door by flashing card on the unit. (2) Card or PIN (command 12) User can access the door by just either flash card or entering 5 digit the user number+ entering 4 digit PIN + # (3) Card and PIN (command 13) User must access the door by using Card and PIN. After flashing card, user must press 4 digit PIN immediately + # . AR-721H8's access mode has three kinds (1) Card only (command 19 default) User can access the door by flashing card on the unit. (2) Card or PIN (command 12) User can access the door by just either flash card or entering 4 digit PIN (3) Card and PIN (command 13) User must access the door by using Card and PIN. After flashing card, user must press 4 digit user code immediately + # . We suggest that AR-721H8 is good for standalone. Because the user access the door by directly user code in networking system (use soyal software). It will face user code repeat question. Therefore, when customer have this demand that directly entering 4 digit PIN, we just suggest this mode.

Q: I having some problem to connect between AR-727H , AR-716Ei and AR-821EF in order to communicate to a digital recording system.

My idea was after the user flash the card on the reader and the reader should able to output a signal in order to trigger the recording system to start recording. A: You can external two relays (Item no.: AR-829RB) as attachment through door relay of the device. In this way, one relay for door lock, another relay for trigger other device in the meantime when the user flash card.

Q: On reader AR-721U we have got from you, have some one placed a lot of glue into top right corner where you have address pins for Wiegand 26 or 34. How to change WG26 (Default) to WG34?

A: Sorry, too glue so that you can not change WG 26 to WG34. It is our engineering fault. in next version will modifay this fault. Besides, you can refer the following diagram to change WG26 to WG34.

Q: How to set that AR-829E directly connect to printer? A: Hardware

Q: From past 3 days one of the AR829E shows "WAIT MASTER CARD" message. Why? In what condition it shows such message? How we can remove it? A: 1. If it is AR-821E, please enter the programming mode and enter 20*050# to solve this question. 2. If it is AR-829E, there are two ways to solve this question. (1) Please connect AR-829E to software to unclick “Enable via Master” function.

(2) Stop power supplying, then pull up battery on PCB board for at least 3 min. then, plug in back. Note. This action will erase all data and setting (including cards, transaction events etc.) on memory buffer.
