Another year has passed at Hartley Lands Farm Fishery. It never feels like anywhere like a year between writing these reports and as always so much has happened. You have caught so many fish, there have been so many matches and open matches. Thats why we create this report as an opportunity to look back at the year which has passed. We use this to share the successes of fishermen in matches at Hartley in the leaderboards section showing off the biggest catches and best days. We also break down these results into stats which show year on year change at Hartley. You guys always also send us tonnes of photos of your days and fish at the fishery. So we want

to share some of those with you here too to look back on some old memories. Bailiff Alan Corby also writes a regular report throughout the year about the fishery and what’s happening. This is an opportunity to look back on those and the ones no longer available on the site to remember what happened around the lakes this year.

We hope you enjoy this report and reliving your year at Hartley Lands

Bailiff Alan Corby writes a report every month on the status of the fishery and what’s going on. This is a collection of some of the most recent reports. The most recent can be found on our website

November 2014 What a fantastic last few weeks we have had at Hartley Lands. The weather has been glorious most of the time, with above average temperatures, which means the water temperature of the Lakes have been higher than is normal at this time of the year. Of course the carp love this and are still feeding like they were at the height of the summer. Lots of mirror and common carp being taken of the surface, to dog biscuit and bread, but don’t ignore the margins with pellet and meat. Corn also beginning to have a big impact. The Farm Reservoir producing some lovely looking mirrors to 26 lb and match weights have been tremendous with Dan Corner winning a recent Open Match with over 323 lb on 8mm hard and soft pellets. Dan had a number of fish over 10 lb, all his fish were caught in the margins from peg 19. At the other end of the lake on peg 29, Damian Ashman had over 236 lb which would usually be enough to win!

Match weights have dropped of late on Nicks Lake, but it is good to see clubs like Addington Rod and Line (who only ever use rods) and Maidstone Town League, who fished a rod and waggler only match, produce some very good weights, with the top 3 anglers all weighting in over 100 lb on both matches. Perch really beginning to show themselves especially around the numerous reed beds and from under overhanging trees. Pear Tree and Bramley Lakes both fishing well, especially for those that are using small pieces of luncheon meat on the hook and are loose feeding sparingly. Fishing on all the lakes is now beginning to go into a winter mode, with water temperature falling rapidly in the last week (9th to 16th November 2014) by nearly 5 degrees. Maggots, caster and other small baits having an impact. All the best Alan

Page 7: Hartley report 2014

October 2014 As most anglers are aware, the Farm Reservoir is now open for matches from 1st October 2014 through to 31st March 2015. This means there are no day tickets on the water if there is a match being held. Please check the calendar on the web site or the board on entering the fishery. As you will notice, every Sunday until the 11th January is booked, also some Saturdays and a few mid-week matches.

The Farm Reservoir has been fishing really well of late, with a good number of 20 lb carp being landed, with a best of over 30 lb. Matches are being won with 140 lb – 145 lb. After over two years away from fishing “Tetley” made a

winning return on the Reservoir, landing 143 lb 04 oz of carp with a best fish going on 18 lb. Nice to see you back “Tetley”.

If you are about to fish a match on Nick’s Lake you should still expect the winning weight to be in the region of 200 lb. Recent matches have thrown up carp of 18 lb and barbel of 12 lb. Great fun on the pole I am told! A number of perch around the 3 lb mark have been reported in the first week of October. Dick Best from Bexhill landed a new lake record carp of 24 lb.

Pear Tree and Bramley Lakes both in top form, with winning match weights of 254 lb and 287 lb respectively. It is always worth noting what method and bait the winners use. All baits seem to be catching at the moment,

except sweetcorn, I am sure that will change in the next few weeks though.

Finches pond is fishing well for roach on caster and hemp, with an as yet unconfirmed 2 lb fish being reported.

Anglers fishing Henniker pond for the first time are always surprised by the quality fishing to be had and the peace and tranquillity that they find. A carp of 18 lb was recently caught by a first time angler to Hartley. He went home very happy, as this was a personal best.

All the best Alan
