In addition to these exceptional facilities, Piqua has two new elementary and a new intermediate school replacing five older buildings within a strong public school system. There are also numerous other col-leges and universities within a one hour commute. High-quality educational facilities and institutions provide the business com-munity with a workforce that is skilled on all levels.

INDUSTRY

Located on Interstate 75, just 20 miles north from its intersec-tion with Interstate 70, Piqua is an integral part of the Dayton region. With excellent access to markets, a well-trained work-force, diverse industries, and a low-cost business environ-ment, Piqua provides the resources needed to compete and succeed in today’s competitive business environment.

With a strong entrepreneurial and small business support network through organizations like the Dayton Development Coalition, the Small Business Development Center at Edison Community College, and the Entrepreneur Center, start-ups and small businesses alike have access to the resources they need to start and grow their operations here.

RECREATION

Piqua’s 17 parks cover nearly 200 acres and include everything from manicured sports fields to wild, undeveloped open spaces just waiting to be explored, a new skateboard park and

Understanding the needs of a community and providing the best treatment options are the hallmarks of a quality healthcare system, and Upper Valley Medical Center is leading the way with compassion and quality care for residents in the Piqua area. The hospital has an enhanced emergency department, women’s services and medical-surgical units to keep up with increas-ing demands in those areas. The UVMC Cancer Center has an infusion center, a second linear accelerator, a healing garden, an enhanced patient/family waiting area, a library/resource center, and a separate cancer patient entrance. In addition to the main hospital, UVMC also has conveniently located satellite medical buildings in Piqua, Troy, Tipp City and Versailles to provide out-patient testing, outpatient surgery, sports medicine/therapies and other medical services.

Kettering Health Network is expanding into Miami County with a medical complex in Piqua that will include an emergency department, a full range of non-emergency imaging and testing services, and primary care and specialty practices. Kettering Health Network also recently opened a hospital in nearby Troy.

Wilson Health, based in Sidney, has also opened an office in Piqua to provide full-time primary care as well as OB/Gyn services which are provided by Wilson Health Medical Group.

Other examples of how Piqua puts the “care” into “healthcare” are the Health Partners Free Clinic and the Miami County Dental Clinic. Health Partners is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing medical care to underinsured residents of the county. The dental clinic was established to serve the low- income population in Miami County. The clinic opened its doors to the community in 2008.

The county’s older residents are cared for in a number of retirement communities including Piqua Manor, Garbry Ridge, Piqua Health and Rehab Center and Brookdale Piqua.

For special cases, there are special places. Just minutes away is Dayton Children’s Medical Center, dedicated solely to the care of young people. The CareFlight helicopter service whisks high-risk trauma cases to special units in Dayton in a matter of minutes. World-renowned hospitals such as The Ohio State University Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic are within driving distance.

Since 1983, Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County, Inc. has been a valued community resource and support to patients and their families battling terminal illnesses both through in home care and support as well as through their in-patient unit located inside Upper Valley Medical Center.

swimming pools. Bike riders, rollerbladers, joggers and walk-ers especially enjoy the impressive 12.5-mile paved Linear Park which connects to the Great Miami River Recreational Trail from Piqua south to the Montgomery County line and the Five Rivers Metroparks portion of the bike trail.

For the anglers at heart, there is excellent fishing and a boat launch at the Hydraulic Canal that runs through Fountain Park. And there is no better place to spend a long summer evening or a crisp fall afternoon than on one of the peaceful walking paths.

The community also offers outstanding golf options for amateurs and professionals alike. Echo Hills Golf Course is an 18-hole golf course and driving range owned and operated by the city of Piqua. The Piqua Country Club is known to be one of the oldest courses west of the Allegheny Mountains. The 18-hole championship golf course challenges players of all skill levels and offers an unforget-table golf experience with dramatic views, lush fairways and tidy greens.

Alexander Stadium, with artificial turf, is the envy of any high school football team. The 8,400-seat stadium includes a 30-foot video scoreboard, premium all-weather track, a state-of-the-art training facility, and other high-tech amenities.

A visit to Piqua is not complete without a trip to the Piqua Historical Society. Johnston Farm and Indian Agency is the most-visited Ohio historical site in the entire state. A ride on the General Harrison canal boat, still drawn as it was nearly two centuries ago by a team of mules, will take you back in time.
