Goals of the program
• The HERS Institute is aimed at preparing Indigenous undergraduate students for graduate study, particularly in STEM fields– 8 week intensive summer research program
• Research poster• Research paper
– Year round support• Graduate school applications, examinations• Support to attend recruitment conferences

Previous Program 2009-2014
• Climate Change in Indigenous Communities– PI, Joane Nagel, KU & co-PI, Dan Wildcat, Haskell
• Over 54 American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders have completed the program
• 28 are pursuing advanced degrees• 12 graduate students have received GRA
fellowships at KU
