Outside the window
Two men, both seriously ill, had the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for
an hour each afternoon. His bed was next to the room‘s only window. The other man had to spend all
his time on his back. Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he passed
the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.
Outside there was a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed
their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm among flowers of every colour and a fine view of the
city skyline could be seen in the distance.
As the man by the window described all this in detail, the man on the other side of the room closed his
eyes and imagined the picturesque scene. One warm afternoon the man by the window described a
parade passing by. Although the other man couldn‘t hear the band – he could see it.
One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths and found the lifeless body of the man
by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man
asked if he could move next to the window. Slowly, painfully, he sat up to take his first look at the real
world outside.
He was surprised to find that the window faced a blank wall. The man asked the nurse how come that
his roommate could describe such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the
man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, ―Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.‖

Két, súlyosan beteg ember feküdt ugyanazon kórteremben. Egyikük minden nap délután felülhetett az ágyban
egy órácskára. Az ágya a kórterem egyetlen ablakához közelebbi volt. A másik beteg ember egész nap csak
feküdt az ágyában, a plafont bámulva. Az az ember, aki az ablaknál feküdt, minden délután, amikor felült, azzal
töltötte az időt, hogy elkezdte közvetíteni a másiknak, mit lát az ablakon át a kinti világból.

Egy reggel a betegeket fürdetni készülő nővér az ablak melletti embert élettelenül találta az ágyában, mert az
éjjel csendben elaludt örökre. Amint alkalom kínálkozott rá, a korábban a belső ágyon fekvő beteg kérte, hogy a
másik ágyban fekhessen. Lassan, fájdalmaktól gyötörve felült az ember és az ablak felé fordult, hogy ott léte alatt
először megpillantsa a kinti világot.
Megdöbbenve látta: az ablak egy tűzfalra néz. Megkérdezte a nővért, mi történhetett az eltávozott szobatárssal,
hogy olyan szépnek festette le az ablakon túli világot. A nővér elárulta, hogy az az ember vak volt, így nem
láthatta a falat sem.

The last house
An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house-
building business to live a more leisurely life with his wife and enjoy his extended family. He would miss
the pay check each week, but he wanted to retire. They could get by.
The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as
a personal favour. The carpenter said yes, but over time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his
work. He wasn‘t doing a good job at all. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.
When the carpenter finished his work, his employer came to inspect the house. Then he handed the
front-door key to the carpenter and said, "This is your house... my gift to you."
After the first surprise, the carpenter felt ashamed. If he had only known he was building his own house,
he would have done it all so differently.
So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into the building.
Then, with a shock, we realize we have to live in the house we have built. If we could do it over, we
would do it much differently. But, you cannot go back. Therefore, build wisely!

Az idős ács egy szép napon úgy döntött, ideje nyugdíjba vonulni. Főnökének elmondta a terveit a nyugdíjazással
kapcsolatban, mert több időt szeretne tölteni a feleségével és az évtizedek során szép nagyra nőtt családjával
tölthet. Bár hiányozni fog a kereset, amit a munkájáért kapott, mégis nyugdíjba akart menni. Eléldegéltek volna.
A főnök nagyon sajnálta, hogy elveszíti legjobb ácsmesterét, s arra kérte őt, hogy utoljára segítsen felépíteni neki
még egy házat, szívességből. Az ácsmester ráállt, de nem telt el sok idő, és máris látni lehetett, hogy az utolsó
házába a szívét már nem tette bele. Az elvégzett munka hanyag volt. Szomorú befejezése volt ez egy egyébként
kiváló és elkötelezett ácsmester szakmai életének.
A ház átadására megjelent a főnök is, aki magával hozta a ház kulcsait, s azokat átadta az ácsmesternek.
- Ez a Te házad - mondta. - Ezt én adom ajándékba.
Az ácsmester elszégyellte magát. Ha tudta volna, hogy a saját házát építi, egészen másképp dolgozott volna.
Így van ez mindnyájunkkal. Építgetjük életünket nap-nap után, de sokszor nem éppen a lehető legjobbat adjuk
magunkból. És aztán jön a hidegzuhany, amikor rádöbbenünk, hogy nekünk kell majd laknunk abban a házban,
amit magunknak építettünk. Ha újra kezdhetnénk, egészen más életet építenénk. Tehát nincs visszaút. Építkezz
okosan.

The black dot
A small town chamber of commerce invited a speaker to its annual dinner. The community‘s economy
was bad, people were discouraged, and they wanted this motivational speaker to give them a boost.
During her presentation, the speaker took a large piece of white paper and made a small black dot in
the centre of it with a marking pen. Then she held the paper up before the group and asked them what
they saw.
One person quickly replied, ―I see a black dot.‖
―Okay, what else do you see?‖
Others joined in agreement: ―A black dot.‖
―Don‘t you see anything besides the dot?‖ she asked.
A resounding ―No‖ came from the audience.
―What about the sheet of paper?‖ asked the speaker. ―I am sure you have all seen it‖, she said, ―But you
have chosen to overlook it.‖
―In life, we also tend to overlook and take for granted many wonderful things that we have or happen
around us and focus our attention and energy on small, dot-like failures and disappointments. The so
called ‗problems‘ that we have are usually like the black dot on the paper. They are small and
insignificant if we can widen our horizon and look at the whole picture.‖

Egy kis kereskedelmi kamara meghívott egy előadót az éves vacsorájára. A kamara gazdasági helyzete rossz
volt, az emberek kétségbe voltak esve; a motivációs előadótól várták azt, hogy lökést adjon nekik.
A prezentációja során az előadó elővett egy nagy fehér lapot és egy filctollal egy kis fekete pöttyöt rajzolt a

The other side
A Father was reading a magazine and his little daughter every now and then distracted him. To keep
her busy, he tore one page on which was printed the map of the world.
He tore it into pieces and asked her to go to her room and put them together to make the map again. He
was sure she would take the whole day to get it done. But the little one came back within minutes with a
perfect map.
When he asked how she could do it so quickly, she said, ―Oh Dad, there is a man's face on the other
side of the paper. I made the face perfect to get the map right.‖ She ran outside to play leaving the
father surprised.
The moral of the story is that there is always the other side to whatever we experience in this world.
Whenever we come across a challenge or a puzzling situation, look at the other side. You will be
surprised to see an easy way to tackle the problem.

Egy apa éppen újságot olvasott és a kislánya egyre másra elterelte a figyelmét róla. Hogy elfoglalja, összetépett
egy oldalt, amire a világ térképe volt nyomtatva.
Darabokra tépte és azt mondta neki, menjen a szobájába és rakja össze a térképet. Biztos volt benne, hogy az
egész napja rá fog menni. De a kislány perceken belül visszatért a kész térképpel.

The goldfish bowl
There is a nine-year-old kid sitting at his desk in a third grade classroom. All of a sudden, there is a
puddle between his feet and his pants are wet. He thinks his heart is going to stop because he cannot
possibly imagine how this has happened. He knows that when the boys find out he will never hear the
end of it. When the girls find out, they‘ll never speak to him again as long as he lives.
He looks up and sees the teacher walking toward him. There is a look in her eyes that says he has been
discovered. But a classmate named Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is filled with water. Susie trips
in front of the teacher and dumps the bowl of water in the boy‘s lap. The boy pretends to be angry, but
actually, he‘s relieved.
Now all of a sudden, the boy is the object of sympathy. The teacher rushes him downstairs and gives
him gym shorts to put on while his pants dry out. All the other children are on their hands and knees
cleaning up around his desk. The sympathy is wonderful.
But now, Susie is suffering. She tries to help, but they tell her to get out. ―You‘ve done enough!‖, they tell
her. Finally, at the end of the day, as they are waiting for the bus, the boy walks over to Susie and
whispers, ―You did that on purpose, didn‘t you?‖ Susie whispers back, ―I wet my pants once too.‖

Egy harmadikas kilencéves fiú ül a padban. Hirtelen egy pocsolya lesz a lábai között és a nadrágja nedves. Majd
megáll a szíve, mert el sem tudja képzelni, hogy történhetett ez. Tudja, hogy mikor a fiúk megtudják, sosem

The rocks in the jar
A philosophy professor stood before his class with some items on the table in front of him. When the
class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and started to fill it with
rocks. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles, of course, took up the open spaces between the rocks. He then asked the students again
if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything
else. He then asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "Yes."
"Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The rocks are the
important things – your family, your partner, your health, and your children – things that if everything
else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that
matter – like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else. The small stuff. If you put the
sand into the jar first," he continued "there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks.
The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have
room for the things that are important to you. So take care of the rocks first – the things that really
matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

Egy filozófusprofesszor az asztalon néhány tárggyal állt az osztály előtt. Amikor elkezdődött az óra, fogott egy
konzerves üveget és feltöltötte kövekkel. Rákérdezett, hogy ugye tele van az üveg? ,,Igen'' - volt a válasz.
Ezután elővett egy dobozt, tele apró kaviccsal, és elkezdte beleszórni a kavicsokat az üvegbe. finoman megrázta

partnered, az egészséged, a gyermekeid. Ha minden mást elveszítenél, az életed akkor teljes maradna. A
kavicsok azok a dolgok, amelyek még számítanak, mint a munkád, a házad, az autód. A homok az összes többi
apróság. Ha a homokot töltöd be először, nem marad hely a kavicsoknak és a köveknek.
Ugyanez történik az életeddel is. Ha minden idődet és energiádat az apróságokra fordítod, nem marad hely
azoknak a dolgoknak, amelyek igazán fontosak számodra. Először a kövekre figyelj - azokra, amelyek igazán

The mule in the well
Once upon a time, a farmer‘s mule fell into a well. The farmer heard the mule crying. After carefully
assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the
well was worth the trouble of saving. Instead, he called his neighbours together, told them what had
happened and asked them to help bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.
Initially, the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and his neighbours continued shovelling and the
dirt hit his back, a thought struck him. He realised that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his
back, he should shake it off and step up.
This he did, blow after blow. No matter how painful the blows were the old mule fought ―panic‖ and just
kept right on shaking it off and stepping up. It wasn‘t long before the old mule, battered and exhausted,
stepped triumphantly over the wall of that well! What seemed like it would bury him, actually blessed
him.
Similarly, if we face our problems and respond to them positively and refuse to give in to panic,
bitterness, or self-pity, the adversities that come along to bury us will eventually benefit and bless us!

Egy napon egy farmer öszvére beleesett a kútba.

hasznunkra válnak és megmentenek.

A glass of milk
One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he
had only one dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house.
However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked
for a drink of water.
She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked,
―How much do I owe you?‖ ―You don‘t owe me anything,‖ she replied. ―Mother has taught us never to
accept pay for a kindness.‖
Years later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her
to the big city to a specialist. When the specialist heard the name of the town she came from, a strange
light filled his eyes. Immediately he rose and went in to see his patient. He recognized her at once. From
that day he gave special attention to the case.
After a long struggle, the battle was won. The doctor requested the business office to pass the final bill
to him for approval.
When the woman received the bill she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally
she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. Tears of joy flooded her eyes
when she saw the words: ―Paid in full with one glass of milk‖.

Blood transfusion
Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who
was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood
transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had
developed the antibodies that combat the illness.
The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to
give his blood to his sister.
I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, ―Yes I‘ll do it if it will save
her.‖As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the
colour returning to her cheek.
Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling
voice, ―Will I start to die right away?‖

Évekkel ezelőtt, mikor önkéntesként dolgoztam egy kórházban, megismertem egy kislányt, aki egy ritka és súlyos

A busy morning
It was a busy morning, about 8:30am, when an elderly gentleman in his 80′s arrived to have stitches
removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry, as he had an appointment at 9:00am.
While taking care of his wound, I asked him why he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me that he
needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife.
He told me that she had been there for a while because she is a victim of Alzheimer‘s disease. As we
talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he
was, that she had not recognized him for five years now.
I was surprised and asked him, ―And you still go every morning, even though she doesn‘t know who you
are?‖ He smiled as he patted my hand and said, ―She doesn‘t know me but I still know who she is.‖ I
had to hold back tears as he left. I had goose bumps on my arm.
Remember that the small deeds that we do in life really matter and true love is an acceptance of all that
is, has been, will be, and will not be.

Mialatt elláttam a sebét, megkérdeztem, hogy miért siet annyira. Azt válaszolta, hogy feltétlenül az Idősek

The tournament
There was a boy who was born without a right arm. On his ninth birthday he asked his parents if he
could join a karate club. They were delighted by the idea and the boy quickly became a regular at the
local dojo. The boy wanted to compete in a tournament and asked his master if this was possible. The
master said he could but only if he listened carefully to his master and trusted him.
The master taught the boy one move and one move only. The boy practised it a lot but after a while he
was worried that the other boys were learning a lot of moves and he only had one. He asked the master
to teach him other moves but the master said no. The master just encouraged the boy to keep practising
that one move.
The boy won the first round of the tournament and then the next round and the one after that until he
found himself winning the entire tournament. The boy was confused. How did he do it? He asked the
master how a boy with only one arm and only one move could win a karate tournament against these
other boys. The master smiled and told the boy that there is only one defence against the move the boy
learned and that defence involves grabbing the attacker by the right arm.

The bill
A giant ship engine failed. The ship‘s owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could
figure but how to fix the engine. Then they brought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he
was young. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he immediately went to work.
He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom.
Two of the ship‘s owners were there, watching this man, hoping he would know what to do. After looking
things over, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped
something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was
fixed!
A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for ten thousand dollars.―What?!‖ the owners
exclaimed. ―He hardly did anything!‖So they wrote the old man a note saying, ―Please send us an
itemized bill.‖

The law of the garbage truck
One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when
suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his
brakes, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car turned his head around and
started yelling at us.
My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean he was really friendly. So I asked, ―Why did
you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!‖ This is when my taxi
driver taught me what I now call, ‗The Law of the Garbage Truck.‘
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of
frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to
dump it and sometimes they‘ll dump it on you. Don‘t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well,
and move on. Don‘t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that life‘s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So love the people who
treat you right and pray for the ones who don‘t. And have a garbage-free day!

Egy nap beugrottam egy taxiba és elindultunk a repülőtér felé. A külső sávban haladtunk, amikor hirtelen egy
fekete autó kijött elénk a parkolóból. A taxisofőr rátaposott a fékre és csak centikkel kerülte el a másik autót. A
másik autó sofőrje megfordult és elkezdett kiabálni velünk.

A lesson in ―heart‖ is my little 10-year-old daughter, Sarah, who was born with a muscle missing in her

The holes in the fence
There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that
every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.
The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to
control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually decreased. He discovered it was easier
to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn‘t lose
his temper at all.
He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that
he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father
that all the nails were gone.
The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, ―You have done well, my son, but
look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they
leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. But it won‘t matter how
many times you say I‘m sorry, the wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.‖

Some time ago, a man punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper.
Money was tight and he became furious when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the
Christmas tree.
Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, ―This is for you,
Daddy.‖ He was embarrassed by his earlier reaction, but he became angry again when he found the box
was empty.
He yelled at her, ―Don‘t you know that when you give someone a present, there‘s supposed to be
something inside it?‖
The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, ‖Oh, Daddy, it is not empty. I blew kisses
