Wall St falls on concerns of
protracted trade dispute: - U.S.
stocks fell on Friday, as investors
worried over the possibility of a long-
drawn-out U.S.-China trade dispute, but
hopes that the two sides could still reach
a last-minute deal limited losses.
Forex - Dollar Dips on Profit-Taking
as Tariffs Come into Force: - The
dollar is broadly lower in early trading in
Europe on Friday as markets ‘sell the
fact’ of higher U.S. tariffs on China, after
‘buying the rumor’ all week. As of
Friday, tariffs on $200 billion worth of
Chinese imports into the U.S. will be
raised to 25% from 10%, and President
Donald Trump said he had ordered the
preparation of new tariffs on a further
$325 billion worth of goods. If they, too,
come into force, that will mean nearly all
of the U.S.’s imports from China will be
subject to a 25% tariff.
Oil Prices Hold On to Gains Despite
Tariff Increase: - Oil prices rose on
Friday, looking past the increase in U.S.
tariffs on Chinese goods during a volatile
week for crude. U.S. crude has seen a
volatile week as investors weighed the
chances of the U.S. and China reaching
a trade deal and avoiding escalating
tariffs that could damage the global
economy and demand for oil.
Gold extends upside run, heads for
slim weekly gain as trade battle
escalates: - Gold futures gained on
Friday, putting prices on track for a
modest weekly rise, as the Trump
administration increased tariffs on $200
billion in Chinese imports, a move that
appeared to maintain selling pressure on
riskier global markets and benefit haven
precious metals.
