Due to its mid-Pacific location, Hawaii has many North American and Asian influences along with its own vibrant native culture.

The population of Hawaii is around 1.4 million and it ranks as the 40th most populated US census statistics for 2012.

Hawaii became the 50th US state on August 20,1959.

The natural beauty of the islands continues to be one of Hawaii's greatest assets.

While it was once a major hub for the whaling, sugar and pineapple industries, it is now economically dependent on tourism and the U.S. military.

Hawaiianand English are the official languages of Hawaii. At the southeastern end of the archipelago, the eight "main islands" are (from the northwest to southeast) Niihau,Kauai,Oahu,Molokai,Lnai,Kahoolawe,Mauiand theIsland of Hawaii. The last is the largest and is often called the "Big Island" to avoid confusing the island with the state or archipelago. The archipelago is physiographically and ethnologically part of the Polynesian subregion ofOceania.

TOPOGRAPHYHawaii is the only state of the United States that is not geographically located in North America, grows coffee, is completely surrounded by water, is entirely anarchipelago, has royal palaces, and does not have a straight line in its state boundary. The state encompasses nearly the entire volcanicHawaiian Archipelago, which comprises hundreds of islands spread over 1,500 miles (2,400km).
