The Children’s Message Mrs. Brookins (Children Age 3 years - Kindergarten may go to Children’s Church at this time.)

The Offertory Prayer Mr. Kaiser

The Offertory “My Tribute” Ms. Dunaphant By A. Crouch; Arr. J. Dunaphant *Bringing Forth our Gifts to God Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Vocal Solo “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” Ms. Jennifer Hamilton, Soloist (Traditional American Melody); Arr. M. Hayes

*The Reading of the Scripture Romans 8:3-4 (The Message) Mr. Rob Townley

God went for the jugular when he sent his own Son. He didn’t deal with the problem as something remote and unimportant. In his Son, Jesus, he personally took on the human condition, entered the disordered mess of struggling humanity in order to set it right once and for all. The law code, weakened as it always was by fractured human nature, could never have done that. The law always ended up being used as a Band-Aid on sin instead of a deep healing of it. And now what the law code asked for but we couldn’t deliver is accomplished as we, instead of redoubling our own efforts, simply embrace what the Spirit is doing in us.

Reader: The Word of God for the people of God,

Congregation: Thanks be to God.

The Sermon “More Than a Band-Aid” Mrs. Brookins

Donate School Supplies for Children in Need!

Third Grade Bible Celebration and Presentation - Sunday, August 20th

Friends, school will be back in session before you know it! August 1st to be exact for Atlanta Public Schools. To celebrate the start of a new school year, we want to “Bless the Backpacks” of all the children that will be going back to school. So, during the August 13th worship service, be sure to have the kids bring their backpacks and we will invite them to bring them forward to be blessed.

It has become a Haygood tradition to take photos of all the Morningside Elementary School kids on their first day of school. Be sure to mark your calendar for the first day of school, August 1st, for picture day! The staff of Haygood will be on the front steps of the church as the kids make their way to school. Stop by and let us take a photo to help you remember the day! We will see you then! Say Cheese!

On Sunday, August 20th, we will present our third grade students with a Bible. This is a tradition not only at Haygood, but throughout the Methodist denomination. Be sure to come out and support the kids when they receive their Bibles. This will be an important day in their lives, and we pray the Bibles will be a blessing to them and support them on their faith journeys. For more information please contact Ashley Brookins, [email protected]

We are collecting school supplies for children in need. Supplies needed: #2 pencils, loose leaf wide ruled notebook paper, plastic three prong folders, colored pencils, crayons, yellow highlighters, and glue sticks. Leave your supplies at the church office or with Ashley Brookins. Why Are We Collecting? On Sunday, August 13th we are blessing our children's backpacks in worship! We will also be praying over the school supplies collected for the children of Jolly Elementary School in the Clarkston community. For more information please contact Ashley Brookins.

Soles4Souls Event Coming Soon! We Need Your Shoes!

Help Support the Intown Food Pantry—DONATE TODAY!

~ Announcements for July 23, 2017 ~

Your old shoes can still provide miles of smiles for someone who doesn’t need a Fitbit to indicate they’ve walked enough each day. This is the 7th year Haygood has collected new and used shoes for Soles4Souls, which distributes new shoes to those in need in the US and abroad and recycles used shoes thru micro-enterprises in developing countries. Last year we collected over 1000 shoes, let’s see if we can beat that this year!

You can bring your shoes to Haygood starting next Sunday, July 30th or simply leave them on the Lawn, once school starts on August 1st. It’s a neighborhood event! And we have our lawn back this year to catch the attention of our neighbors. So, dig deep in your closet corners and find those shoes you’ll never use. They’ll help someone whose way is probably a little less paved than yours.

Mark these Dates:

from July 30th – Put shoes in the bins inside Haygood’s entries.

from Aug. 1st – Leave shoes on our Lawn.

Aug. 9th, 6:30 p.m., after our first Wednesday Night Supper since May – Help us pair, sort and bag shoes for delivery to the Soles4Souls warehouse in Alabama.

Thank you to everyone who continues to contribute to Intown. Intown Food Bank’s new location is at Druid Hills Presbyterian Church on Ponce

de Leon Ave. Haygood is specifically asked to provide juice, soup (canned or dried) and snacks, but all nonperishable items are welcome. Please place

them in the collection bins in the Gym Lobby. Let’s help make sure the pantry is full throughout the summer! Thanks you for your support!
