COURSE DESCRIPTION COURSE OBJECTIVES Annual Refresher for Hazardous Waste Sites is an 8-hour course designed for private and public sector employees who work at sites covered by OSHA’s Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Final Rule (29 CFR 1910.120). This course requires that individuals have completed a 40-hour initial course as listed in 29 CFR 1910.120(2)(3). Group exercises, lectures, and a case study will provide students with real-life approaches to hazardous waste site operations. At the completion of this course, participants should be able to: Identify and characterize physical, chemical, biological, and radiological hazards. Select and use proper personal protective equipment. Implement basic decontamination procedures. Develop site specific safety and health plans. Identify the components of medical monitoring program. Rhett Carpenter, CHST is a graduate of Central Washington University with a degree in Occupational Safety & Health Management, and a minor in Risk and Environmental Management. Rhett is the owner of ‘Safety, Health & Environmental Services LLC', and is also an instructor for the Pacific Northwest OSHA Education Center at the University of Washington.

Rick Gleason, CIH, CSP, CHMM, CET has served as the lead instructor for the Pacific Northwest OSHA Education Center since it's founding in 1995. Rick is also a lecturer in the University of Washington Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences. The beloved "safety celebrity" is known throughout the Northwest for his excellence in teaching health and safety

He is also an instructor for many associations and organizations throughout the Greater Puget Sound Region. Rhett is an authorized instructor through the Department of Ecology and regularly provides the Certified Erosion & Sediment Control training and consultation services, on a variety of levels, to many organizations.

Prior to working for UW DEOHS, Rick was a Senior Safety and Health Specialist at Prezant Associates for 15 years, working as a consultant in workplace issues.
