Business ObjectivesThe customer had relocated a warehouse from Delaware to Memphis. The new warehouse was facing operational issues that were affecting customer satisfaction. These included:

• Low on-time-delivery (OTD) and low process efficiency

• Large volume to handle and unavailability of solution/tool to prioritize shipments based on due dates

• Absence of solution/tool to track and monitor progress

• Lack of reliable real-time data affecting real-time operational decisions and capacity management

HCL solutionAs a strategic partner, HCL triggered a detailed study of clients business processes, and gathered crucial insights around the important parameters that required monitoring to streamline the business operations of the warehouse at Memphis. The next major step was in terms of identifying the critical KPIs in collaboration with the business. HCL leveraged its unique and proprietary tool called ‘HCL Provantage ™’, built in SAP Solutions Manager to create a Business Operations dashboard for logistics execution processes at Memphis.

The detailed study suggested that the customer would require more insight to overcome these problems, the customer would require more insight into the day-to-day operations and take real-time decisions—essentially, a dashboard displaying information about the key performance indicators of the in-bound and out-bound logistics processes at a glance on an easy-to-use user-interface.

How HCL tailor made a dashboard with KPIs to enhance operational efficiency:

• HCL studied the customer’s business processes to clearly understand which operational aspects needed monitoring at the Memphis warehouse

• The team then identified the critical KPIs in collaboration with the business. Business Process Monitoring, a tool in SAP Solution Manager (SolMan) was chosen to build a Business Process Operations dashboard for logistics execution at Memphis

• HCL developed the dashboard in a way that allows the end user to switch between several dashboards (based on user authorization). Each dashboard has up to six panels, which graphically display business process-related KPIs, viewable as one of the following charts or tables: bar/ stacked bar/ column/ stacked column/ pie/ trend chart or statistic/dynamic rating table

• For the KPIs which were not a part of SAP standard KPIs, a separate development team worked rigorously to develop customized KPIs in the format that helps to improve the process visibility
