It is amazing how time flies. I feel like I was installed as president only a few days back, and here we are almost at the end of the society year. Anyway, it was a humbling experience to be able to lead the ASHRAE Hawaii Chapter. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to our members for providing me with the op- portunity to lead our chapter as a president. I also would like to express my sincere thankfulness to all the officers, BOG members, commiĴee chairs, and volunteers that made 2018-19 a successful Society Year. Together, we were able to accomplish a lot of things including informative & well aĴended monthly meetings, complete the funding for Hawaii Chapter Kokua Scholarship fund, host a successful technical seminar, a refrigeration tour at Ice Place Hawaii, and a wonderful golf tournament. You all are truly amazing! ASHRAE Hawaii Chapter is scheduled to have its 2019-20 Installation of Officers Banquet at the Plaza Club on Thurs- day, June 13, 2019. Our incoming president, Willie Diguc, and his team will be installed to lead our chapter. A “Just- Like-Vegas” fun event will be organized during the banquet. The Hawaii Chapter of the Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association is proud to host an incredible technical seminar on HVAC systems effect, duct design, fitting selection, and more led by leading national experts.

The half-day seminar ideal is for SMACNA contractors, mechanical engineers, and inspectors. The “road show” style program is a mix of presentation with live demonstrations.

System Effect:Ever wonder why a particular system does not perform as expected? In many cases the underperformance is due to system effect. Learn how various inlet and outlet conditions affect fan, and overall system performance. Witness a demonstration vary-ing from ideal to worst case scenarios on an operating fan with live performance measurements. If there was ever a case for more space in a mechanical room this is it.

Duct Design and Fitting Selection:Would you believe me if I told you that choosing less efficient fittings in certain parts of a system is the better choice? Have you ever had to install a fitting that was different from the original design? Did it impact overall system performance? We will discuss the impacts of fitting selection as well as provide a live demonstration comparing the performance of different fitting types.

Mr. Howard and Mr. Terzigni will also discuss upcoming changes to SMACNA technical standards, and provide an overview of other resources available to engineers and design professionals.
