30 th June Summer Term 2 Week 4 Head of School News A bilingual school for everyone Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Children; This has been a very exciting week for our year 2 children! On Wednesday they performed an extraordinary musi- cal ‘The Ballad of John Silver’, learning all the verses off-by-heart as well as all the pirate songs to accompany it! The performance reflected all the creative topic-learning the children do, for ex- ample: in literacy memorizing poetry off-by-heart, in music playing the re- corder and singing, in art making pi- rate chains and swords, in German singing songs in German. A massive well done to all the children for their extraordinary performance. We would like to thank all the staff, in particular, the Year 2 team and Miss Nemiah. We would also like to thank all our families for supporting us with costumes and attend- ing the show. On Thursday, Year 2 participated in a multi-skills event at Southwark Park alongside other KS1 chil- dren. They learnt various skills as demonstrated in the pictures below:

A bilingual school for everyone Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Children;

On Monday, Miss Julia announced the beginning of Art week at JKPS. We welcomed some students from Dulwich College to partici-pate and support our children with the various exciting art projects going on in the school this week. On Friday, we exhibited all our work outside and welcomed all our friends and families to see our extraordinary work! We would like to thank our amazing volunteers and Miss Julia for organising such a fantastic art week.

We are always very eager and proud to share our children’s fabulous extra-curricular achievements. Elena, in 3B, ran the 5km run at Peckham Park on Saturday and set a new under 10s girls’ record of 21:47. This is an adult race, but this didn’t stop our little runner from finishing in 47th place! Remarkably, Elena’s age grading (which tracks individual performance against the world record time for his/her age) was 83.17pc which ranks Elena’s performance in the top ten of all athletes’ performance in the park runs at Peckham Park. Congratulations Elena for your extraordinary achievement.

Music News The children in Years 3, 4 and 5 have been working very hard in preparation for the upcoming Summer Music Concerts with Miss Nemiah. Times and dates are as follows: Wednesday 12th July 2017 at 9:30am Thursday 13th July 2017 at 2:15pm Tickets for these concerts will need to be purchased at the school office so that we don’t go over our hall capacity. All the funds raised through ticket sales will go towards the School Music Fund for the purchase of more in-struments.

After School Care officially started our potato harvest this week and there is more to come! The children have been busy picking plenty of pea pods, counting and eating the peas straight away. But it is not all about harvest-ing: After School Care children also continue

sowing seeds, so we will have new plants to put in after the summer break. In the meantime, our pump-kin plants grow and grow keeping the soil around the sweet corn plants moist and shady. If you are interested in finding out more about the garden, please get in touch with Anke ([email protected]).

We would like to wish our families, staff and children a lovely weekend,

Best regards, Miss Marta

Summer Term 2 Week 4

What have we been learning this week?

Reception

In maths, we have been reasoning and solving addi-tion problems based on our new number story that we made up together. We used different creatures and their number of legs to make our own number stories. We used play dough to make different num-bers and we also drew pictures to show how to make different numbers.

Year 1

This week, as part of 'Art Week', Year One worked collaboratively to produce large-scale art works in-spired by the New York graf-fiti artist, Jean-Michel Basquait. They employed a range of techniques to cre-ate their pieces, which will be displayed in the school's grounds in the very near future.'

Year 2 This week, we have been learning about Anne Bonny and creating leaflets for museums, explaining what her life was like. Did you know that she was one of the first women pirates? She dressed up as a man and was renowned as the most fearsome fighters. Finally, did you know that her final words to her pi-rate husband were: “If you’d fought like a man, you need not have been hanged like a dog.”

Year 3

Year 3s have had an amazing arts week. We produced nice tin totem poles and wrote a cool story related to our book "The Great Kapok Tree". In Maths, we start-ed to work the difference between 2D and 3D shapes.

Year 4 This week we have had a lot of fun creating our class project for Art Week. On Monday, we learnt how to tie-dye fabric; on Tuesday, we studied the work of Robert Rauschenberg and on Tuesday and Thursday, we used our inspiration from the artist to create some amazing prints. On Friday, we put all our print-ing skills together, as well as other techniques, to create our masterpiece! Our finished piece is a huge canvas to be displayed in the outside area.

Year 5

This week in Year 5, we have been getting really ex-cited about different structures and… geodesic domes! We looked at the work of engineer/ archi-tect/ artist Buckman Fuller, researched differ-ent building structures, designed are own build-ings, and then had a go at building model domes. Once we had built them, we used our fan to check if they could stand up to a strong wind and they all stayed standing!... well, at least, almost all of them.
