School uniform remains very good, however, a gentle re-minder that if you are wearing a polo shirt, nothing should be worn underneath and only a blazer on top. Also girls please make sure skirts are just above the knee and no shorter. I will be focusing on checking planners and homework this term. Please can I ask par-ents/carers to check that your child is writing in all their homework (including if it has not been set). Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns about this. I hope everyone has a good week and good luck to 7Elm with their upcoming assem-bly .

Firstly, I would like to congratulate all of the Year 10 participants on the Duke of Edinburgh trip. The students worked tirelessly and covered a lot of ground! You are all now in good shape for the real expedition, coming soon. Big thank you to Miss May for her hard work and organisation. Our Year 10 Spanish exchange students are in Barcelona until the 27th. We wish everybody well and look forward to your stories when you return. Following on from last week's ebulletin, our focus continues to be on driving attendance forward with our students and maximising the learning opportunities on offer at Grey Court. Tutors alongside myself, Miss Ridgers and our Education Welfare Officer will be working closely with our students in raising the profile of excellent attendance at school and the benefits of this. Planner Monitoring has been taking place this week and will continue into next week. Please can you ensure that your child shows you their planner at least once a week for checking and signing. The planner is a key part of being organised and meeting deadlines for homework and coursework, as well as an important communication tool between home and school. Letters will have been sent home this week by Mr Ali (Deputy Head) regarding our 6th Form Information Evening targeting Year 10 students. This will take place on Thursday 9th May at the school and the expectation is that all parents attend to look at our fantastic offer at Grey Court 6th Form. Best of luck to our Year 10 MFL students as their take their controlled assessments next week in lessons. You will be great! Please, as always, contact me if you require any support or have any enquiries.

Year 8 Netball Grey Court 6 : Waldegrave 9 On Tuesday 16 April, Grey Court Year 8 girls played Waldegrave School in an exciting netball fixture. In the first third of the game Grey Court lacked enthusiasm but picked it up in the second third with Eve Wil-liams (Man of the Match) scoring an amazing 3 goals. Izzi Brechin (Players man of the match) played great in defence alongside Ella Seorgie, Olivia Fox and Maddie Jones, together they managed to keep Waldegrave at bay. Morgan Penny scored an outstanding last minute goal that closed the gap between the two teams, however it just wasn't enough, as we ran out of time. All in all it was a great match and it highlighted our determination as a team, we never gave up and fought till the end and we were unfortunate not to draw the match!!

Helping Grey Court School develop an “outstanding” learning community 1

a fantastic new event, to benefit all Grey Court students, on Friday 17th May

“Auction of Promises” Event Newsletter Issue no1 - March 2013

Who is invited?

All Grey Court families & friends are welcome too

What happens?

Your family makes a promise to do or give something, and we auction it off (on your behalf) to the highest bidder

Why have an Auction of Promises?Grey Court Parents’ Association are now planning an “Auction of Promises” which aims to help raise up to £17,600 needed by the school - to purchase a suite of 32 new computers to teach Grey Court students.

New computers are now desperately needed as the current ones are now 8 years old and will soon not be useable by our 1,050 students - due to the changes in software.

As well as raising money, this event will also be a good social night out and we aim to have a large variety of lots, small and large in value, to provide you with lots of choice to bid on.

What is an Auction of

Promises? It's simple really, you make a promise to do

something or give something and we auction it

on your behalf to the highest bidder with the

proceeds of the auction going to the school.

It's a great event and, with your help, we'll have a huge range of promises - offering something for everyone to bid on and real fun on the night as the auction frenzy begins!

To help Grey Court students,

we all now need your help!

• Put the date in your diary and come along, bring family & friends & have a great night out as well as helping to raise money for your child’s school.

• Please let us know if you have any

contacts that may be good to

approach to obtain items/experiences

that can be donated.

• Can you donate any items or offer any

professional services to auction? e.g.

accountancy, architecture, reflexology,

music/ language lessons?

• Is there something you can offer us to

auction? e.g. dog walking,

babysitting, dinner party catering,

cake making, airport taxi service?

• Can you offer work experience in

your place of work?

• Do you own something you would be

prepared to donate? e.g. a week’s

holiday cottage or sports car rental?
