    Heading Games

Players form groups of 3: 1 player kneels with hands on haunches, middle player with ball stands facing

    kneeling player, 3rd

player stands behind the server. The serve is underhand.

Kneeling player rocks forwards into a push up position and heads ball through the legs of the server. All

players then rotate 1 spot and repeat the actions. Middle players may assist the ball through the legs.

    TOP EXAMPLE:

    Coaching points:

    1.

    Rock forwards to head

    LOWER EXAMPLE:

    1. Get in line with the ball to head2. Bend knees prior to the header3. Use upper torso, not just the head and neck

    More versions:

    1. Ball is headed down between the servers legs2. 1st header goes over the server and is then headed by the 3rd player back to the server3. As above but the server then heads back to the 3rd player and then they switch4. Serve and then attempt continuous heading before the switch

    Points system:

    1. 1 point for ball helped through the legs2. 2 points for a ball that goes through the legs without touching3. 3 points for 2 consecutive headers4. 5 Points for 3 consecutive headers

    2 teams and 1 ball Field 10 x 10 yards

Each team is restricted to its own end of the field. Team with the ball alternates with toss and then a

header until they decide to head for goal at the other end of the field. The opponents act as keepers to

defend their goal. When they gain possession they attempt to score at the other end.

    Coaching points:

    1. Get in line with the ball to head a pass2. Attack the ball to head for goal3. Get above the ball to head down to score4. Get under the ball to loop a header over the opponents5. Take off on 1 foot to head for goal

    (linear phase)

Server moves ball at speed and delivers a cross on the run. Ball should be driven, not floated and should

    be attacked without a jump

    Coaching points:

    1. Make eye contact early2. Get in the line of the cross if possible3. Meet ball in the front half of the goal4. Head ball back to the near post

As before but there is pressure on the crosser and a recovering defender. Attacker may pull away from

the defender but should get across him to head. Ideal ball is crossed square and the runner gets in the

    line of the cross.

    Coaching points:

    1. Crosser should begin squared up to the defender to freeze him inside2. Runner should get across the defender3. No daylight between runner and defender

Field is 50 yards wide x 45-50 long

A conditioned game with 3 attackers vs. 2 defenders at each end

2 neutral players in channels on either sideKeepers must distribute wide when they get the ball and defenders must also outlet to the wings if they

    win the ball

Services are mixed but the intent is to deliver the ball below head height so the attackers dont have to

    jump to contact the ball

    Coaching points:

    1. Make eye contact early and serve the ball on the run2. Attackers should pull away initially and then attack the ball3. Attackers should get across the defender4.

Direct the ball back where it came from
