· a.. Oo~anz As During the reporting poriod, Company A conducted 24 patrols, averaging 2.6 d~s with an average of 7,5 men per patrol. The comp~ made 14 sightings of 51 enefflY, and nine contacts with 26 enemy1 resulting in eight enefflY KIA (C). The comp~ fired nine artiller,y missions of 218 rounds( and·directed eight air strikes. · Company A, also captured four (4J AK-47'si Company A sustained three (5) USMC KIA, and four (4) USMC WIA.

b, Comp!BY B1 During the·reporting period, Comp~ B conducted 50 patrols averaging 5.6 d~s, with an average of 6.7 men per patrol. The company made seven (7) sightings of 25 enemy and two (2) contacts with 16 enemy. The company fired twe~ve (12) artUlery mission of · 146 rounds, and directed four (4) air strikes. The company sustain-ed no casualties.

4. Intelligencet The Reconnaissance effort remained concentrated 1n the western portion of the AO in the· early weeks of June • Primary emphasis was placed in the southern portion of the western DMZ, where Reconnaissance Teams wade contact £our different times, probably with element~ of the 246th NVA Regiment. Another Reconnaissance target was south of Route #9 ne~· Khe Sanh. HareJ as in the DMZ the enemy counter Reconnaissance effort was apparent as elements of the 4th Battalion, 24 Regiment, 504th Division exploited Reconnaissance Tem.e., four times near Khe Sanh. With the launching of Operation UTAH MESA the Reconnaissance effort shifted to the ~ Kron V$1ley Region. In the lattor weeks of June the enemy counter Reconnaissance effort drop• ped sharply and the number of sightings and contaots reflected this· in activity on the·part of the enemy. ·

On sight investigation indicates enemy came·up the northeast side of the hil~team received RPGs, satchel charges, chi-com grenades, bangalor torpedoes and small arms fire. The area was covered with powder burns from explosives, Reaction Team,Leader stated that the marks on tho ground and the way the equipment was scattered, the team must have been involved in hand to· hand combat. The f6llowing weapons could not be found: four M-16 Rifle, on·e M-79, and one 45 caliber pistol .. The teams web gear, · ammunition and grenades were· found. Team memberJ were with out shirts, and ono had one boot missing. The bodies were riddled by small arms fi're and ~om by explosives. About 15 meters to the north several propaganda leaflets were found written in english, An american paper back book with Viotnamos writing throughout the pages was found near the team~s bodies. Tho toam had two· radios, one was damaged. The reaction teimt .· picked up three NVA packs, one RPG with four rounds, assorted clothing, assorted mess and medical gear nnd one piece of parachute, all items were sent to G-2 Collection,

Team returned fire and threw hand gX'enades resulting in one enemy KIA (C). 081950H helicopter attempted a extraction and received heavy volume of AK-47 fire from around the Landing Zone and the helicopter pulled off. 08200H helicopter attempted another extraction but had to pull off after sustaining soveral hits from AK-47 fire. 090150H. gunship attempt-ed an extraction and was forced to pull out by a heavy volume of AK-47 fire. 091130H Sparrow Hawk married with the team. A check of the area turned up various documents five enemy bodies and assorted equipment. ll0100H1 team was extracted after being escorted by Sparrow Hawk to new Landing Zone.
