Health Services

Services Regular (non-emergency) medical

care

Office hours: Monday – Friday,

8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Appointments Open Access: call between 8:30-9:30 a.m.

for same-day appointment.

Regular appointments: for more complex issues (e.g., annual exams, athletic physicals, etc.) that can be scheduled in advance.

Each student is assessed a semester fee to help support Health and Counseling Services.

No fee for appointments. Some small fees for certain services:

Flu Vaccine $12.00 Wrist Splint $20.00Allergy Shots $40.00/semester Throat Culture $30.00 Hepatitis A Vaccine $45.00/injection Pap Smear $60.00Teacher Physical exam + TB test $15.00 Tuberculin Skin Test $10.00

Payment Options:• Pay Health Services directly and submit receipt to be reimbursed by insurance.• OR Health Services can bill your student account or i-card. • We do not bill health insurance.

As a student, you should:

1. Have a copy of your insurance card.

2. Know which is the preferred hospital.

3. Know if a preferred provider must be seen BEFORE obtaining lab tests, x-rays, etc.

Emergency Medical Care

Students living on campus should notify their Resident Assistant (RA), if they have a serious illness, injury, or after-hours emergency.

Emergencies:Call Campus Police at 206-7777.They will call 911, if necessary.Emergency response team one mile from campus.

Two hospital Emergency Departments: MMC and St. John’s.

Several Urgent Care Centers.

Immunizations State required immunizations are due by:

10th day of classes

$35 late fee will be assessed for non-compliance.

Registration for a second semester will not be allowed until immunizations are received.

Required:• Current Tdap in the last 10 years• Two MMRs• TB testing for international students.

Meningitis/Meningococcal Disease

Characteristics/Symptoms

• Serious bacterial illness.

• Infection of the covering of the brain and spinal cord.

• Can cause blood infections.

• Transmitted through close contact.

• College students living in residence halls are at increased risk.

Prevention/Treatment

• Meningococcal vaccine.

• Meningococcal infections can be treated with drugs (e.g., penicillin).

• See the CDC information statement for more info.

Confidentiality

Abide by HIPAA and FERPA regulations regarding confidentiality.

Information (visits, presence in Health Services, medical information) will not be acknowledged, discussed with anyone other than the student, unless the student has signed a consent to release information.

Consent must be specific to the information and date requested; cannot be signed in advance.

New consents are required for each separate release of information.

Medical Excuses Written excuses are not provided unless:

- Health Services feels there is a need to protect others - or in the event of communicable diseases.

It is the student’s responsibility to:

- communicate with your professors- inform professors that you are ill and will miss class.

It is the instructor’s responsibility to determine whether:

- the student is in jeopardy, academically- any absences affect the student’s academic standing.
