Health/Physical Education Philosophy Statement As a physical educator, one of our main goals is to enhance physical activity and the importance of health to the students as a lifelong activity. Physical Education should be designed to help aid the students to learn more about health in relation to their bodies. It should also help student's understand how to become active and healthy throughout their entire lives. By having a support system around them, like their friends, teachers, and most importantly family outside of the classroom the student's will make physical activity a priority throughout their lives. The main goal of physical educators is to have the students successfully engaged in activity that is directly related to the skill or movement being taught. Through the activities and lessons teachers can teach students more about life skills and how to overcome obstacles then they would learn in any other class. Sportsmanship, respect, learning from defeat, and teamwork are just a few of the many life skills that students learn when participating in a physical education class. Apart from physical education, health education is a vital component to young students. When I am creating my lessons I design them to educate students on being healthy through cognitive and psychomotor activities. All the lessons are designed according to the national standards to accommodate the students. The third goal of physical educators is to instill the need to be physical active both in and out of the classroom. That means that physical education should be fun! It is a chance for students to learn and experience new things outside of the traditional classroom setting. Without physical education being fun for all students you will start to lose the ‘non athletic students along the way’. By connecting and accommodating all students, there is a higher chance for students to establish lifelong activities that they enjoy. That is why I try to focus on the less traditional sports that most students grow up playing recreationally. If I can have a ‘non athlete’ fall in love with swimming, Frisbee, or racquetball to name a few then I have done my job as an educator. All students should come to Physical Education class with a smile on their face because of the enjoyment the class as a whole brings to them. Finally, relating yourself to the students will open up more trust between you and allow them to understand the importance of getting up and being active. I take my goal very seriously as a physical educator and I hope through my passion and experience I can reach out to the students and encourage them to develop a healthy lifestyle.

I take my goal very seriously as a physical educator and I hope through my passion and experience I can reach out to the students and encourage them to develop a healthy lifestyle. Health topics can be integrated into every physical education class. As I stated earlier, health and physical education go hand in hand. Without one you would not have the other. By incorporating health into physical education, I will be teaching students how your body works when active or what drugs can do to your performance. In a physical education setting I could display pictures of healthy and unhealthy foods and make students aim and hit only the healthy food for points in a throwing unit. Another way to integrate health into the gymnasium is to use technology such as pedometers or heart rate monitors. These devices can help students understand how activity levels and their heart rate can enhance or hurt their performance. These examples along with many others can be helping to stop childhood obesity and other health related issues at just a young age. Overall, it is crucial to teach the students about both physical activity and health. Physical education and health can be taught in both the classroom as well as the gymnasium. It needs to be a part of child's life because it teaches the students lessons that they will carry out throughout their entire life. As a teacher I plan to instill the values of health and physical education to my students so they live happy and healthy for years to come. The values can only be taught by my energy and enthusiasm for the students. If I can connect with my student and design lessons to create fun environment then I have done my job. All students should come into my classroom with a smile on their face and looking forward to whatever lesson I give them. If I can do that, and create a positive environment then my goal to make all students happy and healthy has been achieved.
