WHAT IS HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (HIT)?
HIT is a subset of HIM
Refers to the framework used to manage health information, and the exchange of health information in digital format
Includes handling of hardware, software, and telecommunications technology
Comprised of the technology used to manage healthcare information.

TYPES OF PROGRAMS
Certificate Programs –1 to 2 years (not accredited by CAHIIM)
Associates Degree — 2 years (General Education required) provides eligibility to take the RHIT exam if graduating from

Bachelors Degree— 4 years provides eligibility to take the RHIA exam if graduating from
CAHIIM-accredited school

Externship/Directed Practice In a healthcare organization is provided in the last semester
