In just One Moment we reveal

the winners for 2019

It’s the biggest night of the year for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals and we are delighted to honour all our nominees. The Weightmans’ Patients’ Award was won by dietitian, Aoife Healy, who was described as an exceptional health worker who treated people without judgement or criticism. Runners-up in the category were rheumatology nurse, Janice Booth, mental health nurse, Charlene Lee-Thornton and the Critical Care and ITU Unit. The Infection Incident Response Team was named Clinical Team of the Year following an exceptional response to last year’s Monkeypox outbreak which the team managed to control. Runners-up in this category were the Acute Heart Failure Team, Clifton Hospital and Ward 25. Working in an area that can be demanding and emotionally thought-provoking, the Children’s Looked After Team were awarded the Non-Clinical Team of the Year. Blue Skies Hospitals Fund and the National Artificial Eye Service Admin Team were named as runners-up in this category. An inspirational doctor, who supports patients through some of the darkest of times, was named as Radio Wave’s Unsung Hero. Head of Clinical Psychology, Dr Jean Biggs, was commended for her compassion, care and support of patients at the end of their lives. Runners-up in the category were Clare Edgar, Medical Records Team Leader and Lorraine Tymon, End-of-Life Facilitator. Home First, a service which makes a massive difference to patient wellbeing, without using any additional resource, took the Innovation and Service Improvement Award. Cellular

Pathology, Fleetwood District Nurse and Project Team and the Independent Domestic Abuse and Independent Sexual Abuse Advisor Service were named as runners-up in the category. Employee of the Year went to an extremely passionate and motivated cancer nurse, Jackie Brunton, who was hailed as an inspiration to all staff and someone who enhanced the lives of patients living with cancer. Community nursing team leader, James Earle and Skin Cancer Care Co-ordinator, Michelle Forsyth, took the runner-up places. Volunteer of the Year went to Alma Kitsberg who has shown amazing empathy and compassion when dealing with patients. Runners-up were named as the Blood Runners who ensure blood tests get to the pathology lab in a timely way and the Patient Cancer Care Improvement Group. The hospital’s charity, Blue Skies Hospitals Fund, presented Health Care Assistant, Martin Gillan with an award for his dedication to the charity. Runners up were the Neonatal Department and the Orthopaedic Team of Louise McGuinness and Natalie Parr. Finally, the Chairman’s Award, which is chosen by Chairman of the Trust, Pearse Butler, was presented to Clifton Hospital for putting the patients at the heart of everything they do and ensuring a happy environment to enhance patient dignity and rehabilitation.
