Kenneth S. Thompson, MD

Kenneth S. Thompson, MD, is a public service psychiatrist and Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. He has focused his career on improving psychiatric services and community/population health to achieve health equity. He is Chief Medical Officer for Recovery Innovations, an international non-profit behavioral health services provider. He has helped redesign current electronic health record technology and processes to allow individuals to create their own records, shifting the focus of ownership of the construction of the record from the provider of services to the persons seeking them. The resulting Recovery Journey software encourages patients to develop their own goals for recovery, and includes a portal for input, consultation and coaching from providers and peer support.

Neal Kaufman, MD, MPH

Neal Kaufman, MD, MPH, is CEO of DPS Health, www.dpshealth.com an innovative software development company founded in 2004 and based in Los Angeles, California. He is an adjunct Professor of Pediatrics & Public Health, UCLA. He founded DPS Health to create technology solutions that enable clinicians to help their patients adopt and sustain behaviors that help them lose weight and keep it off. DPS Health does this by creating, implementing, evaluating and commercializing self-management support interventions which are technology-enabled and clinically-linked.

Art Ulene, MD

Art Ulene, MD, is a Board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist who, since 1975, has spearheaded the use of media and technology to promote public health. He appeared regularly on NBC's "TODAY Show" for 23 years, retiring in 1998. During his active career, Ulene led several nationwide health campaigns in collaboration with the American Medical Association and authored more than 50 health-related books and home video/audio programs for lay audiences. In 2006 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Medical Communicators. In 2010, Ulene gave up retirement to develop web-based programs designed to promote healthier behaviors. He is the co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of buckapound.com, a web-based weight loss and fitness program.

Grey F. Warner, MS

Grey F. Warner, MS. After earning his Bachelor's Degree Organic Chemistry from Vanderbilt University, and Master of Science Degrees in Medicinal Chemistry and Industrial Administration, both from Purdue University, Grey joined the pharmaceutical company, Merck, in 1978 as a Professional Sales Representative in the North Central region of the United States. He spent his entire working career at Merck, retiring in December, 2010. Since retiring from Merck, Grey has been working with his old friend and colleague, Art Ulene, to use web-facilitated approaches to fight the epidemic of obesity that exists in this country. Their program and its website, Buckapound.com, are used by participants to modify their lifestyles in simple easy steps to achieve significant and sustainable weight loss.
